I’m thinking he needs a hard look. Everywhere he has been, his teams hit and hit and hit. Supposedly the guy leading the league in hitting and homers wanted to work with Coggin, so the reputation is established.
I keep seeing that he is a good recruiter and a fiery type.
Georgia loves him and knows he won’t be around there much longer.
I wonder if Coggin isn’t more responsible than the midget for Georgia’s instant success.
Him not being a head coach makes it somewhat of a gamble, but if he can recruit the way it sounds like he can, it could pay off big time.
Just some thoughts to kick around.

Im in on him. He has also worked or at least seen the portal worked really well at two different schools. Neither of which care about baseball.

Reading quotes from former players that are in the majors (some of ours included), we need to look hard at him. It sounds like he is a guy that is 100% baseball and has the player’s respect.

Coggins took Kentucky to the College World Series last year. It wasn’t Mingione because whenever he hasn’t had coggins Kentucky has been mediocre. I’m all for this hire. He will bring new life into the program with his recruiting and there will be a lot of offense under him

Yeah, Kentucky is back in the cellar with us. Coggin goes to Georgia and look at what they are doing. No one was saying “the midget is going to be an instant success at Georgia”.

Coggin is at the top of my list until i can be convinced otherwise. An added plus with him is, there won’t be any of that “Starkville doesn’t have a Walmart” or “the wife hates Starkville”. He is from MS and State and knows what he would be getting into if he became the coach.

Coggin was at Georgia last year but I assume had a hand in Kentuckys portal. He also has 2017-2020 where he was out of coaching so definitely to understand that if he is a candidate.

Yeah if State goes the assistant route, he might be my first choice. He's been a lot of places as an assistant including State. I think he would bring Nick Ammiratti back with him. It could be a good fit. It could also dig the current hole deeper, but that's true very literally every coach. He didn't coach for like four years. No idea what he was doing during that time period. His juco coaching gave State Nate Lowe. Definitely one that I hope fans would be receptive to.

Any idea what he was doing during that time period? I knew he was out of coaching. But, was he scouting? Coaching high school ball or something? Insurance sales? Lots of differences in that

It's a big HELL NO! And it won't ever happen either.

Why is it a big HELL NO? It would be typical MSU to pass on a guy because of hurt feeling to watch him go to another SEC school and become the next big thing. I’m sure Vitello has rubbed some folks the wrong way in his travels.

He was working as an MLB agent if my memory serves me. Could be wrong though.

I thought that was Gautreau. Gautreau worked for the Boras Corporation before coming to State. It certainly could've been both of them.

Cannizaro has Coggin on staff in 2017 and lets him go so that he can hire his buddy Gautreau. Andy gets himself fired and coaches a grand total of three games with Gautreau, who then sticks around for 7 years amazingly. Meanwhile, Coggin goes to Kentucky and Georgia and is a big part of their rebuilds.

Hard pass. I have reasons but not going to post on this board. Juice isnt worth the squeeze. Was out of baseball for a reason... if he wants to be a HC coach at a power program, he needs to go earn it at a directional school.

I'd like to hear the reason he was out of baseball for three years. That's what people seem to either not know or to be dancing around.

Other than that the only "negative" I know about Coggin is that he took or nearly took a couple of guys from us.
