One of our mods posted this, and it came from the On3 Nebraska mod. While I don’t think the gumps have had an absolutely atrociously called game this year, officiating doesn’t look great across the board. It’s probably time for the power 4 to start paying full time officials and hold them all to the same standard.

It's without a doubt a problem.

Since I watch Georgia every Saturday the most noticeable aspect that we continuously get jobbed on is non holding calls vs our opponents. We rank 1 or 2 in the least amount called vs opponents in the nation. The most egregious non holding calls specifically come when we rush the passer.

When UGA played tOSU in the semi's that game would not have been near as close if they actually called holding on tOSU. Our Dlinemen were getting tackled.

I think each officiating team should have a person from different parts of the country also.
All the SEC crews should not be from the southeast.

I have a buddy that’s a an official for some small conferences (he know he’s had some citadel games this year), and he gets paid like $350 a game and they don’t take care of travel, lodging, etc. I know it’s lower level than the SEC, but I can’t imagine that it’s enough to make a difference. When the power 4 pays guys and requires the training and what not like the NFL, we won’t get the officiating we need

Agreed, Alabama has been high on that list also since Saban took the job. It does feel like it adversely affects the more talented teams more so than the average team

It's without a doubt targeted to the more talented teams to keep the games competitive. And obviously for gambling reasons. I sincerely believe if Vegas weren't involved we would see officiating improve quite a bit.

I've had a high suspicion of UGA players point shaving in the past vs lesser teams. So if I can spot that out you know Vegas is getting in some refs pockets to sway point spreads.

This is just my opinion….yes I’m a bit of a conspiracy type guy….
If UGA went on to blow out Texas. What do you think would have happened to those tv ratings that night?

They certainly would have started tuning out in the 3rd quarter.

SEC officiating has been terrible for decades.

I do agree they need to be full time but I'm not sure it will change much.

Sometimes they get the correct calls made. In 2022 the defensive PI call:

Then other times they completely miss blatant calls. Last year in the 2nd half as Milroe has time to throw a long TD:

It is what it is.

Make them full time employees with an increase in pay! However, more accountability for penalty enforcements and over turned calls more so than calls that are missed!

Lmao. Anyone can take a still shot and point out a penalty. On the pass interference in 2022….the issue for Alabama fans is that the ref didn’t decide to throw the flag until the Alabama defender who intercepted it was 50 yards into the return. A little bizarre, don’t ya think? As I’ve said earlier, UT was one of if not the most penalized team in the country in 2022….yet played by far their cleanest game of the year against Alabama (only around 30 yards in penalties).

Yes, but those officials sucked. This was also called during that game:

I'm not debating you that some teams fair better in some games.

We have had games against Alabama where I felt like the officials really robbed us.

I've seen games where I felt like most calls went our way.

Thats the problem though right? There's no consistency with officiating.

It feels crooked. I always think about the LSU South Carolina game. Lmao.

I just don't know why you all are complaining now about SEC officiating when it's been awful for 20 years at least.

Agreed. My biggest issue is “when” some of the calls happen. The officials directly impact the outcome and I will never believe that it is some big coincidence.

That DPI call against Da 'Canes in the end zone against Ohio State for the Natty was an EPIC FAIL!

That Side Judge shoulda been investigated!

I keep waiting for UGA to be looked as Bama lite re calls. Still hasn't materialized.
It never will when you only look at it through a UGA lens. Tell me more about this “Bama lite” stuff? Alabama has been railroaded with penalties this entire decade lol.

Alabama UGA this year: Alabama 10 for 90
UGA 6 for 50
Last year:
Alabama 3 for 36
UGA 5 for 56

2021 1st meeting:
Alabama 7 for 85
UGA 6 for 45

Yes either way Bama got the favor in the deal.
5 yards of field position in what, the 3rd quarter? Wouldn’t have changed the outcome. The fact that UGA folks still talk about “Simmons was onside” like it was a screw job is comical.

It wasn’t a false start either. That penalty changed the outcome. The REC hands were all over it
