Crazy Finish to F1 where Verstappen wins the championship over Hamilton last lap and cautions.

I watched it as well. What an amazing race. I still can't believe the luck Max had to get that safety car at the end that allowed him to get fresh tires on for that last lap. I didn't think he had a chance especially after the first lap where Lewis was allowed to cut corners without penalty.

Was just going to post the last lap. I got into F-1 after watching the Netflix series. Amazing technology. Last lap clip on the link. It is something to watch. Probably the greatest F-1 driver ever gets passed on the last lap to lose the race and the championship. The top 3 teams have over a $400 million dollar budget and over 1,000 employees each. Red Bull and Verstappen won. On a side note, the Red Bull manager is married to Ginger Spice

Hey bro, help a brother out. Please dont post sports results in thread titles. The reason for this of course is the TiVo experience, specifically mine. Also know on the main board, spoilers posters get 2 week bans, in this case you should self impose.
your friend rick
(just finished the race, awesome season)

Same for me, though I don’t watch the races live. The sport is fascinating. Too bad it has not become more popular in the US.

Let’s road trip to Texas or Montreal next season. My friends cousin is a former Ferrari road racer and hooks my friends kids up with cool party passes. Stand by for pic from last cota race (you should see his personal garage in Austin)

I watch as many races as possible. Even the middle of the night ones.

I wish it would be more popular here also. Maybe it will get there some day. An American driver would certainly help. But apparently there is this obscure law that race cars in the US can only turn left. 🙂

Are they doing Texas next year? I know Miami got a contract. I can't remember when it starts.

They should just drive in the other direction sometimes, especially if a track hosts more than one race.

I used to love Cart racing, but it never took hold and IRL absorbed it.

Got into F1 because of Covid. Stuck home on Sunday Mornings.

Shalom
Its a truly fascinating sport. The history of the sport is quite amazing. A pile of drivers died during the early days. Sometimes 1 or 2 a week. You needed more than 1 favorite driver, cause he might not be there next race.

Look up some of the older races on YouTube. There are full races out there.

I really miss the old engine sounds before the hybrid garbage of today. They used to run V8, V10, and V12 engines depending on year.

That's awesome. Kept both US races. Plus added Canada back in.
My buddy used to own a 993 cab. He and his wife would drive up Friday am with their teenage son cross seated in the back. Around Albany they always met up with some fun sleds making the same trip. 100mph minimum. I will prob do this trip next summer for the first time.

Montreal is the absolute greatest spot to see a GP. What a weekend you will have. Been there for almost everyone from 1986-1997. What great races they were in those days. Many of the drivers and turbos from that era are legendary.

Popularity is blowing up in the US because of the Netflix series. The young fans love it and are beginning to really get behind it and enjoy it.

Today's race & finale will definitely be controversial. Looks like F1 and the FIA is simply tired of Mercedes and Hamilton winning year after year and did anything possible to help Max win.

Not sure how they can level the playing field so wins are spread out more evenly, based on driver's skills not necessarily the best car and motor money can buy.

Since F1 apparently didn't want today's race to end under a safety car, I think they should have red flagged the race after the last crash. That way at least Hamilton and Max would come out with both on fresh tires (another thing I don't like about F1 is you can change tires and work on cars during red flag stoppages) and have a 2 or 3 lap sprint to the finish. Having Max on fresh tires and Hamilton on old tires for a final lap seems grossly unfair.

If they wanted Max to win, they should have done something about the first lap incident. Turn 5 I believe.

F1 has virtually never had parity. The dominant team changes and their may be more than 1 fighting it out. They should do more to equal out the money. Getting rid of the ultra expensive hybrid garbage would help smaller teams also.

I believe red flag rules are pretty specific and the incident didn't qualify. Don't forget, Mercedes could have pitted Hamilton at any point as well. Of course he would have lost track position. Cases like this is where it doesn't pay to be in the lead.

One of the best parts of going to Maranello in 2019 was getting to see to see some (not all) of the F1 cars and trophies and other memorabilia. Sitting in one wasn't bad either...ferrari.jpg

do you recall the model. It’s stunning. Aren’t you in Europe? Driving something fun?
I've been to Europe.... And I've driven a Mercedes on the Autobahn over 100 mph (and a couple of VW's for that matter). But I live in Ohio. Not sure what model it is--but at 15E for the photo, it was about the cheapest thing in their gift shop. My wife is also a mechanic's daughter and Italian, so she really enjoyed that.

I don't follow F1 but I do recall a debacle at Indy a few years ago. Afterward, some thought the series would never return to the US.

The debacle in Indy in 2005 was a tire issue. You had 2 manufacturers in Michelin and Bridgestone. The Michelin tires kept blowing out along one of the high speed braking zones. None of the Michelin cars, which was most of the field, ran the race. Another huge factor in this was this was the year F1 got rid of tire changes during races.

F1 ran at Indy for several years without issue. Not all tracks in the US over the years were well received though.
