The $1.7 million figure is significant, too, as it's precisely what MSU's arch-rival, Ole Miss, will pay its first-year coach, Houston Nutt.</font></p>

In early April, interim president Vance Watson authorized Greg Byrne to negotiate the contract.</font></p>
