at a poor, pitiful school like Mississippi State whose football program had sunk to depths unheard of in the history of the NCAA would not produce one bit of interest from any of the wealthier schools in the miracle worker who orchestrated the "turn around". Ellis Johnson and Lady Luck earned Croom and McCorvey their big raises. Johnson is gone and the Lady is mighty mighty fickle. We`ll see what happens now.

Who has the problem here? It has never occurred to me to go over to the Mississippi message boards and start bashing someone to try to make me feel better about myself. You coming over here running your mouth does enough of that for me. The air of superiority that your fanbase has is hilarious. My personal favorite is the tag line the Harvard of the South (see Vanderbilt). So just keep on telling everyone else how much you really matter and how everyone looks to Oxford for guidance in these troubled times. Then, when ESPN rolls into to anyone of the three big schools and welcomes you to Hattiesburg for the matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mississippi Bulldogs, you tell me how the rest of the nation really feels about all of us. This was my personal favorite: the preview for the Mississippi Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson tide. It wasn't just the Final Four where we got that tag. My second favorite was the Spurrier has never won in Hattiesburg line. While this is true, he had never played in Hattiesburg at least to my knowledge.

do you think he should be the lowest paid coach in the conference? Considering what he took over, and the overall improvements, I would think it would be pretty ****** to say thanks, but we're only going to give you a 300,000 raise, based on what the market is now, which has gone up almost 100% since Croom took over. Rich Brooks is last, I believe and he's only making 100,000 less than Croom.

Even if we're "overpaying" Croom, he is still in bottom tier of coaches salaries in the SEC, which is what you would probably expect given that he has had three losing seasons in four years.

Maybe you're underpaying Nutt. I don't know. But I don't think that Croom is underpaid based on the market.</p>

..........for the program's sake we've sent the message that we want to be a player in big-time football. By setting that $1.7 mark now, it actually makes it easier to offer $2 mil+ to another coach in the future if Croom's '07 season turns out to be a rare fluke.

does not equal 750,000 in a raise. 1.3 mil would have been adequate with extra incentives depending on what happens this Fall. People seem to be forgetting when you lock in Croom for 1.7 mil over the next 4 years, you also lock in Woodrow and his 113th ranked offensive machine. And to think, Woody also got rewarded with a hefty raise here awhile back. God forbid we under pay him and some other school come calling.

Croom will be on some lists. His overall winning percentage doesn't matter because he will have performed a turnaround and most people would assume he simply inherited such a horrible situation. I don't think we'll win 9 games but nobody cares about what happened from 2004-06 if we won 8 then 9 games.

Brooks makes 1.6. Bobby Johnson may or may not be the lowest paid coach in the SEC since we don't know because Vandy doesn't have to release those numbers.

Even if he is, Croom has done one thing that Johnson hasn't- gone to a bowl game and won it. And remember Johnson had Cutler for a couple of years to. Plus Vandy wasn't on probation. So, you could certainly justify paying Croom more than Johnson.

At any rate, Croom is still 9th in the SEC at best as far as salaries, and is likely only a few hundred thousand from the bottom of the SEC at best.</p>
