They just sent me a text saying they will officially be C Spire Wireless on Sept. 26.

What the hell were they thinking. I completely understand the need for a name change if they are going to become more than a regional carrier, but C Spire? That just makes no sense. I mean, what does the "c" stand for? Cellular? So the full name is Cellular Spire? I feel like Tom Hanks in BIG...I don't get it.

Still, the name is just beyond dumb. Much worse than the one they already had.</p>

...which people quickly accepted when a bunch of Bell wireless companies combined to form that company.

Reads mostly like they want to get into the app business. They're just looking for their piece of the pie.

Also bet that the new name is a distancing from their old brand. By by "their old brand", I mean unlimited service. I predict their tried and true reasonably priced service will end soon. Especially on 4G stuff.

and the word "singular" can be interpreted in many ways - for instance, to mean that they are the "single best provider" or the only provider you need. Singular also means "beyond ordinary" which certainly makes sense.<div>
</div><div>What the 17 does Cspire stand for? Inspire - not quite getting there - why not just name the company Inspire then? Conspire? Thanks. </div><div>
</div><div>But I do agree with patdog, the logo isnt bad. </div>

I have been anxious to see what they were coming out with. My contract is up next month, and I having been debating the benefits of the iPhone. Based on the name and concept, it might make it easier to move on to Verizon.

Being able to use my phone to control these other electronics is about the only thing I found interesting on the fact sheet off the website.. A "personalized experience" sounds like annoying surveys asking me what my likes and dislikes are, and are "CSpire" apps really going to be better than apps on Android Market? I understand wanting to expand your company.. but I mean, what markets are they trying to conquer? Maybe Bama, the Bayou and TN? If they raise the prices to Verizon and ATT levels then epic fail...

Check the twitter search under c spire. I would be very concerned if this was my marketing idea or I had hitched my wagon to it.

I've heard this as well. Also, the plan you have now will no longer exist when you upgrade your phone. Instead of having two unlimited data plans for around $130 or $140 bucks/month, look for it to go up to around $100/phone to get unlimited data, text, voice, streaming content etc. You will be able to buy bundles of "streaming" content in either 2 hour, 5 hour, or unlimited packages. The unlimited streaming package will be around $30/month on top of your data, text, and voice plan. Apparently, streaming content like Pandora and YouTube is different from internet usage with the new plans.

Most of their pub has been on matching user interest with apps. Sorry, but unless you're a technology slug you ought to be able to find good apps that interest you.<div>
</div><div>I have a DirecTV app that I use on my android phone to record stuff on my DVR. I'm told that if I bought whole-house DVR service, I'd be able to even change channels, see what every DVR was doing at the time, etc.</div>

Do you realize you've just described over half the country, probably more like 80%? There is a huge segment of the population that has absolutely no idea what is available to them through their phones. <div>

Spire - 1. A top part or point that tapers upward; a pinnacle.
2. A structure or formation, such as a steeple, that tapers to a point at the top.
3. A slender, tapering part, such as a newly sprouting blade of grass.

As one of my friends said, "so depending on how you look at it, either C Spire is the best there is or they've reached their peak already and its all downhill from here."
