Maybe because our State Department has designated as a wrongful detention issue, Bud!!!She was dumb enough to try to sneak an illegal substance on a plane into Russia. Not sure why there's an outrage over her being in jail.
Why would we when this is designated as a wrongful detention issue by our State Department! The marine was wrongfully imprisoned there for 2 years. I must have missed the outrage from sports figures?
I believe the Russian's offered to trade her but to this point we have been unwilling.
Yep, she'd be all over orange man.At least BG got her wish and doesn't have to worry about hearing that awful, racist Star-Spangled Banner anymore.
Wonder why this tweet doesn't have a racism angle like most of her complaints? Bet it would have if this had happened 2 years ago. Now it's all nicey nice like "i know these things take time".

i mean, that russian only has like 6-10 years left on his sentence. what would happen now that wouldn’t happen in the near future if we let him go?I'm not sure that means much more than a change in who gets to negotiate for her release.
But it also doesn't change that she got herself into this mess by doing something stupid, imo.
I'm also not sure this person is a good trade for a "merchant of death", if that's seriously the plan.

While serving in the military overseas, we were reminded of such things you mention.Who knows if she is actually guilty of anything. If countries like Russia, China, and NoKo decide they want to detain you, they will detain you, and make up a reason. And their intelligence services are smart enough to observe the target before hand and invent a charge that "fits."
Regardless of the truth of the charge, the takeaway is that Americans HAVE NO RIGHTS when they visit countries like this. Their freedom is based on the whims of the foreign government. 99.99% of the time, their whims are not a problem. But when it does become a problem, it's a stark reminder of how much we take for granted here.
As for prisoner exchanges, surely, we have a Russian imprisoned somewhere in America on relatively minor drug charges. That's the person we should offer up in a trade - not an individual convicted of terrorism-related acts. To trade him would only incentivize future detainment of American citizens.
Agreed, but Russia will only accept one prisoner in an exchange. They have made this very clear.Who knows if she is actually guilty of anything. Dubious or not, just because something is legal in the US doesn't mean it's kosher in any other country. And vice versa. Always check before leaving the country. For all you clowns that don't give a rip about WBB, you sure do obsess about Dawn's tweets. What is wrong with anyone wearing a mask (does it hurt you for some reason), and what is wrong with sending out a reminder that a high profile US basketball player is still being detained in Russia under a dubious drug charge (a vaping product bought legally in the US)?

You know it’s dubious? Dubious to you or another country? Sounds like you are making this into something that it isn’t. She brought in a banned substance, and she’s paying the price for it. Some countries actually have rules and live by them… unlike here.. if you happen to be a certain type person rules don’t apply. It’s sickeningFor all you clowns that don't give a rip about WBB, you sure do obsess about Dawn's tweets. Every event is an independent situation.UCLA criminals returned by China in one week.
First of all she never admitted to anything so let's not start to exaggerate the circumstances of her detainment. Second of all she has been playing for this Russian team for the last 5 years, and I am sure she understands Russian laws and customs better than anyone on here who has not been lately. The chances that she just happened to not learn the rules, when she has done it successfully for the last 5 years does not jive with me. Also the teams brief them on rules and customs, but she has been their so long, I am sure she briefs the newcomers. This seems to be a case where Russia has detained her and is using her to bargain for a chip they want. Regardless, she is a thee time Olympian and as someone stated before, we brought the UCLA players home, who were caught red-handed stealing because of our responsibility to care for one of our own. She is one of our own.You know it’s dubious? Dubious to you or another country? Sounds like you are making this into something that it isn’t. So you are basically saying if I’m reading this correctly, that if a person knows and understands certain rules and regulations then they don’t break them?? Lololol ok slick, I can see you must have just stepped out of your time capsule circa 1938First of all she never admitted to anything so let's not start to exaggerate the circumstances of her detainment.
