This may have been the most animated I have heard Leach since he's been here. He sounded almost... excited? Or at least mildly pleased, which is a step in the right direction. He knew the players' names and discussed them individually. I take that as a sign he really likes this class.

Also, good podcast, Joel T. You and Logan do a good job.

I've got to think this is the best class he's ever had, by a significant margin? Obviously he's had some good classes (probably not a Crabtree in the class based on the odds), but as far as how good he thinks they are at the time of signing, this probably has to be the best and deepest by a decent amount? Curious what the best ranked class he had at Texas Tech was.

I was curious, so I looked it up

I could only find SOS ratings back to 2003 and wasn't sure if they were crap or not. So I included MSU's SOS as a point of reference, thinking if they're crap, hopefully they're at least crap across the board.

Thanks for posting this. When I started the thread about going to bowls it was based on this information. Of course, some on here turned it into 6-6 and I have a low bar for success.

Just listened for the first time. I was unaware these were podcasts. I thought they were all articles.

Yep we're trying to do at least 2 or 3 shows a week. It's on Apple and Spotify, as well as online at the link above if that's easier for folks. For anyone that hasn't been listening, we've had several really good interviews. You'll have to scroll back a couple months, but I think you'd all really enjoy our chat with Neil Price. Might be my favorite one we've done so far. We've had several that people might've missed that I think are pretty entertaining/informative. Our recent chats with Woodruff, Graveman and Frazier were all fun. Stephen Prather with SportSource Analytics was on a few weeks ago and really praised Leach. That was good stuff. Mangum joins us every week or two. All the ones he's been on have been cool. Anyway, Logan and I probably won't ever get accused of sounding all that professional, but I think y'all will enjoy the show whenever you get a chance to check it out.

I suspect some of those SOS numbers for the Texas Tech years were inflated because people didn't really believe how much better the SEC was top to bottom at that point, although the Big 12 and SEC probably were much, much closer then. But regardless, he was still over achieving if you believe the recruiting rankings. His 3 year average leading into 2008, his best season (and against supposedly a top 5 SOS)was 36. That's ignoring the freshman class, which was ranked 42.

I like using the averages. If you compare them I think you get a better feel for comparing football teams. Alabama is usually around 95 while we are usually around 87 which is a big difference and you can see it on the field. A 1 point is almost statistically a wash because some players will hit the average while some fall below and other exceed. I feel pretty good if we are within that 1 point range with most of the SEC teams. LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Auburn are usually in the 90s so their talent level is a tier above ours. At MSU Leach is getting talent that is a tier above what he was getting at TTU and WSU. This is why I feel better times are ahead for our program.
