with pay to play and ease of transfer, it is hard to develop planers and stockpile for depth. we are seeing starting players transfer for a better opportunity or possibly a bigger paycheck to play at another school. the COVID year has added a group of players who may have value to pay to play at a school but will never get paid by the NFL. 2025 will be the last year for COVID players so that will change.

PSU has some places where this is impacting us. the PSU OL has been building depth and with the return of several players who would have left in the past, the depth players have decisions. players who have been here for a while and came in highly rated become targets for turnover. if you lose the depth the next year forces you to use more transfers or your new recruits need to be able to play out of high school. tOSU will face this next year.

Unfortunately no one wants to talk about the cost for schools to develop players. I agree with other posts stating soon college courses will no longer matter....and pay to play and recruiting is the new system. I am amazed there hasn't been any discussion of reciprocating schools for the costs of training, feeding, housing when another school buys their player. Should be easy to do by simply multiplying students average yearly enrollment costs by years of attendance....which I am sure is well below the actual yearly cost for a player on scholarship.

They do this for youth players in international soccer when they transfer.

And currently it seems like most QBs are developed somewhere else, and the best ones then go to a contender. I think it was at least half in the playoffs.

While we are clearly in the age of hired guns, Franklin has never taken a QB from the portal. He’s developed QBs from within, for better or worse.

So true. Academy players are bought in sold long before they hit 18 years of age.
