I have watched a handful of his basketball breakdowns on FB and it's clear as day he has an extremely high basketball IQ. I assume Pope will get a third year now. I think it would be a great if he was given the opportunity to help teach the mental game and increase basketball IQ. Again, could it translate to resonate with players if he was a coach? I think I would give him a year to see what he can do.

Would love to know your thoughts. I agreed with everything he said in his interview last night.

IF he gets a third year. He needs to try something different. To me, it was a mere suggestion about DA. Do I want Pope to have a third year even if we turn it around? No. Wasn't you on the Pope train who wants him to get a third year?

Assistant coach? DA looks like he could still go out and wreak havoc on the court. We have a spot open at small forward for the rest of the year…

Im kidding of course, but Anderson has took care of himself. I’m trending toward looking like Jello by the time I reach his age so well done, young man.

If Pope makes a 2nd sweet 16 this year, somehow, .. well MItch will give him the Cal Contract. I bet.

But this thread is about DA as an asst. coach if Pope gets a third year.

That video irritates me.

Why do we say is the 1996 team the greatest Kentucky team ever? Why? Why ask such a stupid question.

Uh yea. 1996 was the greatest UK team of all time. Also the world is spherical and grass is green.

This is so irritating. It’s literally the sagarin rated #1 team OF ALL TIME. It’s the greatest team to ever step on a floor, anywhere. I get tired of that question. 1996 beats 2012 with ease.

Derek as a coach would be fantastic. Just listen to it, we’ve got posters here who would hate on him. He’s objective, progression has been good but he’s not over the top trying to protect him. He said we’re honest with him. He doesn’t get a pass. We’ve got posters who need to learn what high level sports are like, and what it means to be a high level athlete. I don’t think some here even played to be honest. Derek gets it.

There is no IF fella...there never was. There won't be an IF going into year four either. Wait and see

There is no “IF”. He absolutely will be back. That is settled. And really always was.

You look clueless and foolish still acting like this is up for debate.

You don’t know what you’re talking about to make this statement. No one knows. The standard is winning. It’s final fours. Pope is a long way away. An early out and no one will remember the result
Of UT vs UK. We beat them last year 2x and lost when it mattered most. Expectations are far higher than that. Teams sit atop of college basketball. We haven’t been one of those in a long long time. Sitting atop cbb. Or even in the thick of it come March. No look an early out and pope is on the hot seat. The guy is he doesn’t do it this year it would be yet another season without ever having March success. I’m pulling for UK to win it all. Im pulling for great seeding and sect success. Who knows maybe win the conference title. That’s what happens if we take advantage of our upcoming schedule. That’s all that matters is in the moment and pope will be judged on ncaa succcess or lacktherof so let’s see what happens

The only problem with Pope right now is recruiting. Which is a MASSIVE part of being a head coach. I have no doubt he is an excellent coach Xs and Os. But can he get the guys he needs? That remains to be seen.

Mark himself will tell all of us that he has not done a great job. He has said it. We got killed early in the year and we’re now winning (to a degree) like we should.

Sweet 16 loss year 1. We’re now in year 2. Again Mark was brought in to fix the Calipari mess he wasn’t brought in to do anything else. He’s here to end droughts make final fours and hang number 9. He’s not here for anything else. The jury is out, we’ve got recruiting issues and he hasn’t made a deep run yet. We’re in year 2. I would absolutely give him year 3. But if he goes out 1st round and can’t recruit and has the same issues next season I would absolutely consider firing him depending on what moves can be made. Again, we are in droughts. He was brought in to fix that. So fix it.

To me it’s just not a hard concept. Mark must improve and yes he’s done that year 1 by getting us back to the sweet 16 quickly. Tubby was sent packing and made 4 or 5 elite 8’s in 10 years.

Keep moving forward. He’s here to end the droughts he knows this even he has said it. The poster you are referring to despised Calipari but seems to like Mark to the point where she will excuse anything. Some of these people aren’t consistent. Mark wins he stays he doesn’t he goes. We’ve got a program in droughts we need to protect it and get back to where we belong. That’s with mark or without him. Period. I’m hoping he can fix recruiting and be that guy.

As much as people may dislike this, Pope won't be fired for sweet 16s. I think the likelihood of Pope being here year 4 is MUCH greater than him being fired. This season has been tough and I think Pope mucked up the roster when building this team but if he can figure out how to build a roster and actually pull it off, he will be very successful here.

Why do people keep wanting guys with zero coaching experience. We made this mistake of hiring a guy just because he played here with Pope. Let’s not do that again.

Pope has to shake up the staff after this year. Unless he has a miracle end of the season, nothing he’s done shows he can truly complete for a championship here.
