I didnt mean to start a race war on here- I could give a **** that Charlie is black. My problem is we hired a guy to be DC that was damn WR's coach before coming to MSU. Thats insane. Color doesnt matter, hell Woody doesnt suck because he is black- Woody sux because he has to run Crooms ultra-conservative system.

I hope Cheese does well and we play balls out D all year, cause with our offense- we have to.

So we're 4 and 4 white/black on the staff. Well if you count Croom himself, it's 5-4 but who's keeping score?
Apparently, you are. If you want to get technical about it, it's 5-7.

Anyway, we may have 4 and 4 in terms of race but I think the argument here that some have is the simple fact that Mississippi State showed alot of diversity in it's hiring of Croom and some may like to see the same from him
WTF. So you want Croom to hire a white man because we gave in and hired a black one. That's freaking ridiculous. No offense, but I wouldn't care if Obama was our OC, if he could get 500 yards of total offense every game and over 30 ppg. I think I'm starting to see why this is such a big deal to some people on here.

You hung in there pretty well until that blocked punt (you actually hung around pretty well against lsu until all those interceptions).

was about defense- it was called something like "How to defend the pro-formation".

He apparently knew a little bit about offense to, despite his thesis.

Point is, you can coach both sides of the ball and be competent. Heck, look at Croom- he coached LB's at Bama including Derrick Thomas and Corneilious Bennett, and then he coached RB's in the NFL including Natrone Means in 94, and Ahman Green with the Packers. And guess who made him switch to coaching defense- Bear Bryant. If you think he didn't know anything about coaching football, I don't know what to say.

Besides you're missing the point- yes, he did coach WR's, BUT he has coached over three times as long on defense. You're acting like we just hired Norm Chow and we want him to coach LB's.

Like I said, my biggest beef with the guy is he hasn't been a DC anywhere else, but at the same time I'm not going to write the guy off either, unless we start looking Cooper-esque against La Tech.

Yeah, Spurrier won't take just anyone to coach defense

Well, he hired John Thompson and Tyrone Nix to coach defense, and that didn't turn out too well.

my only point was the qualification of the DC.. and yes.. I did point out some comments croom made regarding the neccessity of hiring black assistants to speed up the HC opportunities for black HC in college football ...

and coaches comments seem to be on the extreme side since our DC has coached on the defensive side of the ball many years including a DC stint over seas.. I don't think what he was doing 4 yrs ago negates what he has done over the last 20 yrs...

my point is considering how he has kept mccorvey (and I don't give a rat's *** about who's calling the plays... WTF IS this clown's job duties anyway?)

the point I'm making is valid.. how dedicated is he to the betterment of the program versus his personal agenda? it's a valid point considering how long he's kept mccorvey on the payroll.. added to that.. how much of a search did he do when EJ left? what were his priorities?

He tends to burn assistants out and leave them on the side of the road. Harbison may be Ron Cooper-reincarnate, but I don't believe not being rehired by Saban is exactly a negative.

based on dude's bio, I'm not sure he's ready... could we have gotten someone else with more experience and proven ability?

does this choice mirror the offensive coord situation currently in place?

how many offensive coord would still have their job after the production mccorvey has put up?...hasn't he been OC since day one with croom? was this promotion of dude to DC made under the same mindset that croom has with mccorvey?

I'm hoping I'm wrong on all.. however if we SUCK AGAIN on offense this year and croom keeps mccorvey, we are in deep do do for quite a while

...otherwise you wouldn't be second guessing Coach Croom. Cheese turned Keith Fitzhugh's career around, our safeties were knocking people's heads off, separating them from the ball. Further, how many long passes did we give up all year? One? Harbison had a LOT of imput to calling defensive alignments also. Our defense is going to be more attacking this year. Ellis Johnson was a bend, not break guy. I predict we will get more turnovers this year than last, so save my post, and I will remind you of yours.
