Do you remember Tony Taylor of the Phillies?

I came across his name today and I remembered having a lot of his baseball cards as a kid (mom threw them all out and I never forgave her for it, but I digress). So I looked up his stats. He had more than 2,000 hits and played in the majors for 19 years, that's a nice career! View attachment 812497
Yes, he was a really solid player. Also had a good glove.

If I remember correctly, Taylor made a great play to take away a hit in Jim Bunning's perfect game against the Mets.

I think I had a bat that I got at Bat Day at Connie Mack that had Taylor's name on it. (You had no control over which player's signature was on the bat -- they just handed them out from a box at the turnstile.)

He was a nice player for the Fightins.

I had to look it up. I couldn't remember if he was before or after Cookie Rojas. It appears that they were on the same team for about 10 years. I remembered them both as second basemen

From the below article:

"The only potential Mets hit was wiped out by a sensational diving stop by second baseman Tony Taylor of a drive by Jesse Gonder in the fifth inning. Taylor knocked down the line drive, crawled after the ball and got Gonder at first base."

TT was a wonderful player and better person. Every kid of that era would attempt to bless themselves like TT did before each AB. When Dick Allen returned to Philly for Part II, the Phillies were going to not include Taylor on the post season roster. Allen wanted to support his long term teammate and said if TT wasn’t on the roster than he wouldn’t play either. It was a stand off and the Phillies added TT as a coach for the series. Allen absolutely loved TT.

Imagine giving bat handouts today. That’s almost as crazy as…..
