Maybe these impatient haters should go back and look up how long it took Paterno to win a Natty and Engle left him with a helluva lot stronger program than Franklin took
over after the sanctions.
Just for the record I think Joe became head coach in 1966 and his team went undefeated in 68 and 69. It's not his fault the sports writers voted the Natl Champion in those days.

Frustrated is the word.

Is he incapable of winning the big game, afraid to make the gutsy call to win the big one, or plain unlucky?
While on the treadmill Friday morning I watched Paul Finebaum say (paraphrased) “Franklin will manage to coach his team to another loss.” Frustrated is right. I mentioned the treadmill because I wouldn’t be caught dead watching Paul Finebaum were I not a captive audience.

I like James as a Person. He seems genuine. He seems to care about his family and his players. He has the right values.

He just can win a damn big game. He never will.

I teeter on wanting him gone and keeping him because of the good things he does/professes.

This ^^.

I don’t loathe the guy. He seems nice enough (never met him) and is generally a good representative of the university. I think most people’s issue is with the results, not the person.

He’s had 11 years now. That’s a very generous amount of time to evaluate results. Hell, he would have been fired after 3-4 years at most SEC schools.

I know some will be happy if PSU just makes the playoff but really nothing has changed. PSU, (along with many others), will have made the playoff not because they’ve seriously improved from prior years, but because they’ve just tripled the number of teams they let in now.

As the Ohio St game showed us, nothing has materially changed at PSU under Franklin this year (so far).

I know Franklin as HC is overall responsible, but I don’t think he coached the team to a loss. I am way way way disappointed with our DC and our “innovative” OC, they both **** the bed with play calling, especially on O side of ball. OC acted like it was his first big game and did not know how to adjust.

Loathe would be really weird. I like him as a man. He's really good as the head of a football program. He'll never be great. Whatever it is that it takes to be at that next level, he doesn't have it. Few do of course. But we have a decade of evidence that he will never compete for a title. So is 10-2 good enough? I guess, just frustrating to know it's the ceiling.

lol. Yeah, but be honest. Did you think BOTH his new coordinators would both shut the bed in same game? Of course you didn’t. I’m sure neither did he.

How do you know he can’t and never will? All you know is that he hasn’t won most of the big games to this point.
I’d love to be proven wrong.
The evidence says he’s maxed out his abilities

So the 2016 Big 10 Championship game wasn't a big game? So the NY6 bowls weren't big games? Like Franklin aptly noted, Bowling Green is a big game. You lose to Bowling Green and watch heads explode.

To hate someone that has a higher winning percentage than that of Penn State's football history....
To hate someone that graduates his players .....
To hate someone that is a fine representative of Penn State University....
To hate someone that has his team finish higher in the national rankings than his rank of salary as compared to his counterparts.....
To hate someone that has the sixth highest winning percentage of coaches with more than 10 years head coaching experience....
To hate someone that has won three major bowl games.....

That person should look in the mirror as that person has a serious hate problem.

In his prime JoePa took over. Psu had so many second half victories.

“In his prime, Paterno would take over the play calling responsibilities from time to time.” Is this what you’re saying? Just wanna be sure.

James is a good man, but I’m tired of his act … obviously.
He has known for four years he had a legit throwing QB, yet failed the recruit the necessary WR talent to compliment Drew.. Speaking of recruiting, a head coach’s job must emphasis recruit big money boosters to fund talent acquisition. I have no insider info, but I do have a sense that James has only a few supporters among that group. I fear, they too are suffering from Franklin fatigue and his inability to break through his coaching ceiling. “Obvivously””
