But if Penn State can make it to the National Championship Game who would you prefer as an opponent?

My choice The Ohio State University.

If not, a Penn State Miami rematch for the National Championship Game would be fun for a litany of reasons.

well beating Ohio St for the national title would be sweet, and if we lose we could say that the only team that beat us all year was the national champs

Assuming you are going for the lowest realistic power rated team. I'm curious where SP+ has BYU compared to Boise. I'm guessing within a point or so.
Yea...BYU is just .5 point higher, so not a big difference (BYU 22nd, Boise 24th).

And I'll state it here since it's a pet peeve of mine but I always bite my tongue...the whole "it would be great to get Georgia/Alabama/insert southern team here in Beaver Stadium in December" is such an overrated factor. We'd be much better off playing a cold weather team that isn't as good than something really good from down south. The weather impacts both teams, and the talent differential between a 3 loss Georgia/Alabama seeded 11th or a 1 loss BYU seeded 11th (if they lost in the B12 title game) is a much bigger deal.

Alabama in snow? Are you sure?

Cool, right where I have BYU as well. Good to agree with SP.

Yeah, agreed on the weather impact, especially for a playoff game. Maybe in a different situation I may weight it heavier, but probably still not too much.

the odds of a major snow storm happening as the game is pretty low. They would get fields cleared quickly if it's a playoff game. Very small impact for a playoff game. Would still rather play Boise/BYU.

Optimally i would like PSU to play and beat Ohio State.

Other options would be
Alabama
Texas
Oregon

The Big 12 is most likely not getting two teams in. If BYU loses the Big 12 CCG, they’ll be out.

Maybe, maybe not. I remember Leonard Fournette saying prior to the NFL he had never played in temps below the 40’s. Those guys are not used to it and when they play in neutral sites, it’s always in a dome. You may be right, but I think home field advantage, including the weather, would be advantage PSU. Now, the talent is the talent. Not denying that.

With that said, if PSU gets the right seeding and draw, I think they could make the final 4. Let’s say Miami wins the ACC and gets one of the top 4 seeds, if PSU can win the first round game, I think they could beat an ACC champ Miami. Then everything else is gravy, nothing to lose, let it fly.
