Why not? They would have been conference champs. The rankings are what they are. Just beat Utah.Purdue lost and No they would have not passed PSU.

Purdue was not even in the Top 25 of the playoff rankings, they were not going to jump 15 to 17 sports to jump PSU with a win, they would have kicked PSU out of the Rose Bowl, the other teams that past PSU in the rankings were not 15 or 17 lower. Why not? But you posted that others passed PSU because they were conference champs and it wasn’t surprising….had Purdue won, they would have been conference champs.Purdue was not even in the Top 25 of the playoff rankings, they were not going to jump 15 to 17 sports to jump PSU with a win, they would have kicked PSU out of the Rose Bowl, the other teams that past PSU in the rankings were not 15 or 17 lower.

if this were a year where we were in the 12 team playoff, these rankings would matter a bit more. assume that the conf games are going to drop when we start the 12 team playoff, but ranking will man a lot.Teams that were one or three spots behind PSU not 17 to 15.
It's all in the Johnny Reb Confederacy that is the southern press.Being conference champs didn’t matter for some teams in 2016… number of losses was the only thing that counted.
If this was a 12 team playoff that drop would have cost us a home game in the first round.
This year I think a PSU/Bama game is very even. Bame was not that great this year and could easily have 4 losses, they got very lucky vs Texas and I believe Auburn was a little better vs Bama than the PSU score.Yeah look, we can complain all we want, but a lot of these folks turn into a few penn state games a year, when they watch us get blown out by Michigan and they run for 400 yards on us, its just a bad look to complain about our ranking. Yes, teams like Clemson, Alabama, OSU will always get treated more favorably, because you know what, they have been winning a lot more than us over the last 5 years, winning at the highest levels. Seriously, how bad you think Alabama beats us by at this point? You guys think we're there?
So if TCU doesn’t get penalized for losing their CCG, why should K State get rewarded? Either they count or they don’t. K State got to play in their CCG with a 9-3 record, they wouldn’t have if they were in the Big Ten East…it’s not a level playing field and shouldn’t be treated like it is.Teams that were one or three spots behind PSU not 17 to 15.
Very good point. And I can remember when a Colorado team was ranked #3 because its "only losses" were to #1 NU and #2 OU.So if TCU doesn’t get penalized for losing their CCG, why should K State get rewarded? “Absolutely nothing.”Very good point. And I can remember when a Colorado team was ranked #3 because its "only losses" were to #1 NU and #2 OU.
The rest of the Big 8 was much softer than the current Big Ten.
To paraphrase Tolstoy: "Polls. What are they good for?"
Nice Tolstoy reference. (Yeah, I know it wasn’t Tolstoy.)Very good point. And I can remember when a Colorado team was ranked #3 because its "only losses" were to #1 NU and #2 OU.
