Since @Tom McAndrew is whooshing down the slopes and getting some quality hot tub time with Shannon Tweed this week, I’m setting up the Eagles game thread.

This week’s game is interesting with Covid absences and playoff seeds fairly locked for both teams. Will Siriani play his starters and try to keep the winning momentum? Will Dallas look to rest a few starters and head into the playoffs as healthy as possible? Stay tuned.

Steelers fan here. I come in peace. Any chance you guys want to trade Minshew to Pittsburgh? I’d take him over Mason.

That depends on what the Eagles and Steelers do this off-season.

Listening to the NFL on SiriusXM, there was a healthy debate on whether the Steelers should jump into the Desean Watson pursuit.

To a non-Steelers fan, that feels way opposed to the Rooney philosophy, but that team needs a huge upgrade at QB. Is there a scenario where they’d consider it if Watson’s legal issues got resolved?

Howie made a very smart move when he brought Minshew aboard. He is a solid back up who can win you some games if/when your franchise QB gets dinged. This off -season Minshew becomes a solid chip to be dealt to other teams. It is rumored that at least 3 teams are interested in a draft day trade for him in exchange for draft pick etc.

I listened to that conversation. I like that show. Good info. I can’t see this happening no matter what. The Steelers never invest way too much in one guy, much less a guy with an uncertain future.

Ouch. The Iggles are 9-1 against teams with losing records and 0-7 against teams with winning records this season.

Nick’s got this.

These announcers are acting like the score is some kind of surprise. They act as if the Cowboys have pulled the upset in a big game and the Eagles are limping into the playoffs. Even Jerry was acting like they won their biggest game of the year.

If the Cowboys get a little momentum in the playoffs I see them playing in the Super Bowl. The top NFC teams are evenly matched. I can’t say that about the AFC.

Where have you been all year, Bob? This has been their problem. They beat up on bad teams and are often not that competitive against good teams.

Making the playoffs is an unexpected treat, but they’re mismatched against better teams right now.

I wouldn’t read much onto this game. Based on Tom’s earlier posts, the Eagles played one defensive starter tonight against Dallas’ first string offense. The Eagles may not have won straight up, but projecting this win as momentum for a playoff run is fool’s gold.

Before the game got out of hand, I saw a lot of issues the Cowboys have that will not help them in the playoffs. Penalties seem to be a problem for them as well as a defense that was giving up a lot of yards and points (again, in the first half) to backup players. It should not be difficult for Dak with his skill players to throw the ball against a secondary composed of players who most fans have not heard of (including a former PSU player who portal’d out).

I couple of things here.

First, the number of Eagles' starters out is well-document as it was a coaching decision. Flying under the radar, however, is how many impact players were out for the Cowboys: Tony Pollard (RB), Trevon Diggs (CB), Jayron Kearse (S), Michael Gallup (WR), Tyron Smith (OT), Anthony Brown (CB) and Micah Parsons (LB). So that when you claim the Cowboys were playing with "first stringers" you may want to qualify that.

Second, I agree in that we shouldn't read too much into this game. It had an odd feel to it, almost like a preseason game. One thing it confirmed for me as a Cowboys fan is the Cowboys have yet to work out their mid-season funk. They might lead the NFL in a lot of categories on both sides of the ball, but they still aren't playing to their potential.

Third, the chance of a rematch is improbable because three teams must lose today (Rams, Cards and Bucs) in order for Dallas to regain the #2 seed and therefore, host the Eagles in the wild-card round. It's not happening. That said, if they did meet in the playoffs then little tells me the outcome would be much different than 27 September. Perhaps with the exception of the Eagles running the ball more than a dozen times  and fewer Eagles' penalties.
