And if you lose a few games your season isn’t over. That’s why it is the greatest show on earth.
This is one of the very small handful of things I appreciate about the NFL over college football.

On another note, should we root for the Cowboys or Vikings? Ugh.

As much as I hold my nose, cowboys. Need Vikes to lose. We can control the Cowboys w another win. We can’t the Vikes

That was about as ugly as they get but a win is a win! 🦅9-1 🦅

Add in a dominant beating of those mutts on the Banks of the polluted Raritan. It was an enjoyable weekend of football.

So I had a very busy day, and a call @ 7 am caused it to become even more hectic. I only got to watch about 10 - 15 minutes of the game (when I was posting updates earlier in the thread). However, I did DVR it, and just got to watch it. I skipped the 1st half, as the end of the 1st and the very beginning of the 2nd half are what I watched in real time, and thus didn't want to go over the dreadful 1st half.

The 2nd half was far more entertaining, and the ending was great (from an Eagles' perspective).

The negative:

- AJ Brown with back-to-back sub-par games
- not a lot of production from the TEs
- Matt Ryan, when he had time, did cause problems for the Birds' secondary

The enjoyable:

- Hurts finally got things rolling in the 2nd half, and especially on the final drive
- the new DTs played more than I expected, and better than I expected
- the Birds causing the fumble, and recovering, when Jonathan Taylor was moving the entire pile @ 10 yards
- the TD pass to Quez Watkins. It was one of Hurts' better passes on the day

If I had watched the entire game in real time, I probably would have been as frustrated as some of you appeared to be when I read over the earlier posts in this thread. By missing most of the 1st half, and fast forwarding through all the commercials in the 2nd half, it was an enjoyable game to watch.

It wasn't their prettiest win, or their most dominant performance on either side of the ball. But a win is a win, and the Birds are 9-1.

Never ever ever root for the Cowgirls...EVER!!! Had to get that out first.

I will take a sloppy win over a clean loss any day, however, this was just fugly. Gannon sold out to stop the run but that seemed to leave Ryan open receivers which he hit. What the hell is wrong with the offense these past 2 weeks? Are the rest of the teams catching up to them finally? Granted Goedert being out and having sub-par backup TEs doesn't help. The penalties have just killed them on some drives, I mean 1st & 35 on the opening drive? C'mon man!! (err, maybe that was the 2nd drive). Whatever is going on they need to clean this crap up fast and get back on track.

no the refineries caught up. seems to me they are looking for certain things with the Eagles, but when other teams run them, there is no call. re: inelegible down field, pick plays in particular.

A few thoughts FWIW:

  1. I think a lot of the offensive production drop is tied to fewer RPOs and runs by Hurts. I can't blame them for trying to protect him, but his mobility was a huge part of their 8-0 start. It felt like as he cut down on runs, the offense started to sputter. He started running in the 4th quarter yesterday and, BAM, 14 points. They can't overwork Hurts, but need to find some balance here.
  2. Goedert's loss is substantial, but blaming their struggles on this is a red herring. Penalties on the backup TEs really hurt them early, though. They need to find schemes to get the TEs more involved (4-5 targets per game) to keep defenses honest.
  3. The defense has to pick its poison w/r/t stopping the run vs. quick inside slants. That is why Ryan had success on crosses against loaded fronts yesterday and no CB in the league can defend these routes in man coverage if properly timed and executed. As Joseph and Suh round into shape and Davis returns, hopefully, they get better at stopping the run without loading the box and exposing easy completions.

Zangaro and Roob talked about this. 40% for Joseph and 27% for Suh. For dudes that have been sitting at home since the season started. I’m gonna love to see Joseph and Davis together. Not only that but the mentorship he’ll provide for Davis.

especially if you play outside leverage. Why they dont play inside leverage is beyond me. I know the theory is the S should be there to help or at least know the stuffing out of them, but you assestment is accute, properly timed and executed is though to stop. Now put the corner in inside leverage, and let the WR adjust.

Gannon's philosophy seems to be avoiding big plays and making teams make long drives to score. Inside leverage opens you up to a world of hurt. My hunch is the Safeties also roll to deep coverage in Gannon's system, which leaves the middle vulnerable to timing completions. We saw it in each of the last two games, though the D really stiffened vs. the run yesterday which made it work better.

i am really conflicted by the flowing.....
Will Fries manhandled Cox on Zack Moss’ 7-yard run in the third quarter, one of Cox’s clear losses, but Cox drew a holding penalty on Fries on the very next play.

Fries had 3 penalties called on him on Sunday. I am conflicted on how these guys end up in the NFL if the OL they were on at PSU couldn't open up holes for the run game.

yup on the penalties, which is a lot. yup on the others as well. Bates starting OG for Bills, who Philly let go for a cup of coffee I believe. I think at the time they had a log jam of young guys inside. Either that or, Howie didnt want him beating out a draft choice. LOL
