With their history of massive interference by boosters, (and the whole made up Harsin affair episode this year), I have a hard time seeing them finding any great replacement.

It will cost them a premium both in dollars and contract terms. You play in one of the toughest conferences and divisions in CFB, the expectations are high, and you have to deal with the worst kind of boosters. The kind of coach they want will have options that will allow him to demand lots of money and lots of guarantees. The alternative is a guy they won't like any more than the last few.

$15 million per the Auburn website to stay home and NOT coach...holy sh*t!
Most all guarantees in coaching contracts are offset guarantees, meaning Auburn's financial liability is reduced if and when the coach secures work and is paid by another team during the term of the contract. While Auburn has an obligation to pay off the contract, Harsin has a duty to find a similar coaching position with another team. Harsin cannot simply sit and collect his paycheck; he has to mitigate and try to find another job, with the payments from the new job offsetting the amount owed from the firing team.

Yes, but $7.5M is due immediately without clawbacks.

Not in this case....

Harsin is owed a buyout of approximately $15.97 million, which is 70% of his remaining contract. Half of that is owed within 30 days. The buyout cannot be offset by taking a job at another school, meaning Harsin will get every penny Auburn owes him.

Looks like they have 30 days to dig up some dirt on him so the firing is for cause.

Bill O'Brien? That should fire up the Alabama fanbase.
I don't really know why because Bama seems to just keep chugging along, but I don't think their fans like OB very much and wouldn't mind if he left. I don't watch a lot of Bama football though so maybe it's justified in terms of in game playcalling and it's not reflected in wins-losses or the rankings.

I was just kidding about O'Brien. You're right about the Bama program, and Saban always seems able to attract the best assistants.

I was thinking Deion. He’s been getting high praise for the job he’s doing at Jackson State.
If I'm Sanders, I take the Georgia Tech job instead of Auburn (if he has the choice). Live in Atlanta (where he is a hero) instead of Auburn. Also, plays in the much, much, easier ACC than SEC West.

Build the resume until he can land the PSU job.
