FWIW:
The new Auburn AD, Cohen, got his first AD job at Mississippi State (thats who Auburn hired him from). The Head Football Coach at Mississippi State back then was Dan Mullen (who is currently not coaching, but spending a year being a talking head on TV). Cohen was hired as MSU's baseball coach the same year Mullen was hired to coach the football team.

Mullen left MSU a couple years after Cohen took over as AD, but they certainly would be familiar (and Mullen did very well at MSU)

Yeah....most don't think that is accurate.

He is currently as assistant at Alabama, and does anyone actually think Saban is going to let one of his assitants start negotiating contracts during the season? The new AD was hired just over the weekend and frankly, not sure if he already started or if he will come in during Semester Break. So, who would negotiate a contract with O'Brien on a Monday if the new AD was only hired on a Friday?

Mullen did not recruit well at Florida - hence he was out. Saw some online chatter that Miss St (and Ole Miss) have to rely heavily on JUCO and now the transfer portal, because they lack the HS talent in thier backyards. Auburn is closer to Atlanta and could land some talent there, but if Mullen could not mine talent rich Florida as the head coach at UF, doubt he does much better at Auburn.

I still say - give Urbie a call. Before someone else does.

Who wants to be a FB coach??

Both NCAA & NFL teams have shown little patience this year with their Head Coaches. Just goes to show how much $$ there is floating around out there to pay buy-outs.

O’Brien??? Really… the guy admitted he hated recruiting. Great x and o guy, but that is like 5% of the job

Wasn't politicking for Mullen, just pointing out that relationship that might play a role in the search (no inside info).

FWIW: Mullen was fired from UF near the end of his fourth year. In each of the first three, he went to a NY6 Bowl (and beat at least one Top 10 team each year, IIRC). I think his issues at UF flipped on off-field issues more than anything else (which created a lousy team vibe, too many losses, and a lack of support from the fans and AD). Off-field issues are, of course, all a part of the Head Coach evaluation.
He also significantly improved recruiting while at MSU (and won a lot more games than a typical coach would at MSU) and had (going OTTOMH, someone can check the ratings) probably "top 20-ish" recruiting classes at UF. Was that good enough? IDK

I would expect his track record would make him a legit candidate for a lot of jobs. But would Urbie be higher on the list of any team looking to become "elite"? I would certainly think so, given his just about unmatched (outside of Saban) track record.

That's why I said I was joking about in an earlier post. I should have left that alone. I would have looked prescient. I assumed his goal was to return as an NFL coach in some capacity.

When you say "checks all the boxes"....how exactly do you think he does that and what exactly constitutes "a box"?
