Bally’s drops out of Nittany Mall casino project in State College

Take heart, central Pennsylvanians! Ira says the development will "proceed as planned."

'Lubert described the proposed casino as a “transformational development” to life for central Pennsylvania.'

Hear, hear! I'm glad to be living in central Pennsylvania. These are incredible times. I can't wait to experience the enhanced quality of life that a mini-casino brings to us. I'll be gorging myself on that comped buffet food as I stare in a catatonic state at a flashing slot machine. Paradise.

Don't forget the third-class entertainment that these mini casinos are famous for.

How long have they been talking about this casino? 10 years?

Ira's group won the bid in 2020, but the earliest reference I could find to his wheeling and dealing was 2018. This article also references the 2018 memorandum of lease option that he signed with the Nittany Mall.

Can you imagine if PSU farted around that long with football facilities? Franklin wouldn’t put up with it. He’d bail.

Wait. 🤔

Was Ira the principle partner at the casino in King of Prussia?
I found Boyd Gaming purchased it in 2018.
Some of the proposed games:

I'm still confused as to which role Lea Thompson will play in this.

Wouldn't PSU students be more likely to become addicted to gambling via sports gambling apps on their phones?

The folks at risk from the casino likely are townies from relatively low income homes

Bally's have announced they are out of the casino business going into the former Nittany Mall, but planners say they are still moving ahead with the plans to put a mid-sized casino as planned. If I were a savvy investor, I think this is not a good project to be pouring money into without a solid partner like Bally's backing it. https://www.statecollege.com/articl...l-casino-but-project-will-proceed-as-planned/

Just a reminder. Gambling addiction fùcks over other common people too. I know 2 people that had thier lives go to shìt once a Casino moved to Wilkes Barre Pa. One younger that was stealing money out of a cash register at work and got fired and another that blew her husband's $200,000 pension without him knowing. The stories are much worse than I care to describe here but both aren't here on Earth anymore. No drugs. No alcohol.

1-800-GAMBLER is an effing joke.

In the end (within the next decade), I think the mall will be at least partially demolished and redeveloped even though it will be at an astronomical cost.

Here's what they're doing w/ the dead Lycoming Mall in Muncy.

That's Muncy though. The commercial real estate values aren't comparable.

Maybe some lawyer on here would know this...
Why could the casino not be charged with receiving stolen property?
It may be that money is not considered property or that it is too difficult to track (any where that the thief purchased anything would be guilty of this).
I do agree it would be almost impossible for anyone (casino, store, etc.) to know if the money was stolen prior to accepting payment.

Apply that question everywhere. Kid walks into CVS to buy a Hershey bar …
