Hmmm......I checked the Auburn board; no smoke with Franklin or Dabo. But, I did see Auburn is 'supposedly' floating 10yr/$120mm as their offer....who outside of Dabo, Meyer, and Saban is worth that? Kiffin? LOL.

Theoretically, probably not even the group you mentioned.

In the current landscape, it's going to be the going rate in 5 years.

Myself, why not find a good coach for 1/5th that rate, and funnel that money into a collective for players?

You don't spend $25 mm on one class like A&M did, but you identify a couple difference makers with good attitudes. You get them while developing some kids and in 3-4 years, you could be competing with anyone.

LOL, assuming this is true, no doubt they'd like to contact Dabo and James about their head coaching vacancy. Dabo has recently won Nattys and James beat them 2 years in a row, and this year was ugly. Its not a bad wish list. But it will be a tough sell. Lots of competition in SEC West.

They're going to have to pry Rhule from the grips of mighty Nebraska!

Rhule is a roll up the sleeves guy, blue collar and can grind. Carolina was a terrible fit...

Auburn is a red-headed step child to Bama...they need a Rhule type of guy to Rebuild. Franklin and Dabo, you think they are roll up sleeve grinders?
They are community organizers lol ;) they need big name places to be successful. Much like Deon--everyone thinks Deon can win a NAtty anyhwere uh NO. Good Luck with that...back to Rhule look at what he has done in re-building programs, he has shown progression success;

2013 Temple 2–10
2014 Temple 6–6
2015 Temple 10–4 Conference 7–1 1st (East) L Boca Raton
2016 Temple 10–3 Conference 7–1 1st (East) Military

2017 Baylor 1–11
2018 Baylor 7–6 Conference 4-5 W Texas
2019 Baylor 11–3 Conference 8–1 2nd L Sugar

This is what Auburn Needs....

Both Dabo and JF wouldn't be able to help Auburn the way they think....

Rhule would be a great fit IMHO for Auburn. (just in case ur wondering--not for PSU)
I don't see Rhule being successful in the SEC

Define Success? It is a loaded conference with Smart-Saban and Kelly....he could compete. On bad year be 4th, in the SEC thats good considering the 2 best teams YoY lately are Bama and GA

Two program rebuilds at Temple and Baylor get a lot of attention. Temple historically is lousy and he brought Baylor out of the scandal fallout like OB and CJF have with us.

Is it possible to drop Franklin's buyout for a limited time? We'll call it an end-of-season sale and see who bites.

Are we forgetting that Franklin won at Vandy?

Not saying he's what Auburn needs.
Yes, Agree. He did well there, very well in all relativity.
I am comparing/critiquing JF on his 9 years here at PSU.

I think he would need to bring in top ten recruiting classes. While he brought in better players to Temple and should be commended for bringing in classes in the 20 - 30 range in a tough Baylor situation, I'm not sure he can muck it out in the swamp of $EC recruiting. I might be totally off base on this - it's just my gut feeling.

His buyout is only $8mm. Drops to $6mm after 12/31. Chump change if the numbers being floated are anywhere near accurate.

Not advocating for Golden, but his turnaround at Temple is maybe the best turn around in college football history. This article from 2010 lays out the many, many disadvantages Temple has compared to peer institutions....almost zerotravel/recruiting budget, no on campus stadium, terrible conference affiliation, bad facilities, etc. Compare that to Baylor who will break the bank to win.

And went onto “great” success with the Panthers where he was jettisoned. He is a carpetbagger and goes where the $$ is. In this day and age of the portal, if CJF left, say goodbye to a lot of current players, particularly the RBs, LBs and possibly more. That is the new danger in the current college football environment of poaching.

There are 130 D1 Jobs - 40 or more of those schools probably think they are just "the right coach" away from being a legit contender.
There are maybe 5 coaches who truly have a track record that would indicate they can realistically bring a program to the top.
The 40+ folks involved in the decisions, and who have the ability to spend other people's money, all think they can be one of the 5 top programs.

Ergo, the insanity. Including the elevation of run-of-the-mill coaches into theoretical saviors.

By eking out victories over Elon and on other Sister's of the Poor. Franklin didn't beat any prominent teams....his hallmark victory over Florida was because the Gators were really a slumping program at the time.

I can see Franklin jumping at an Auburn offer. Fumi owns a number of properties along the Gulf Coast and they seem to prefer being in the South.

C'mon AU. Open that checkbook and make it happen.

Auburn should take a hard look at Mark Stoops.

If they were willing to give him time, maybe. He's a lot like Ferentz though in that he's not known for being a great recruiter compared to developing talent. Is that what Auburn wants? Knowing that you have Bama and UGA on the schedule every year, how long are they willing to give him?

Ah, yes, because every coach before him was scheduling opposing conference champions for the OOC schedule. Franklin just showed up and demanded they play who they played just so he could milk the job for better.

Curious, why hasn't anybody else tried this? Sounds fool proof if Franklin could do it.

So he's a better coach than a dozen or so tomato cans that Vanderbilt hired. Whoooppee!!
