3 Dog Night was an incredible cover band....taking good often obscure songs and giving them their unique remix and resulting in many top hits.

3 Dog Night was never a favorite band for me, just an ok one, and I generally liked their hits. But it was not until recently that I read an article regarding well-known covers that I knew that "Mama Told Me Not to Come" was a Randy Newman song that 3DN covered and may be their best-known hit.
It's a novelty song in some ways, clever and funny, which was something Randy Newman did better than most imo. Recalling the lyrics with the new knowledge that Randy Newman wrote it, made me like the song even more. And then realizing that a number of well-known bands and artists covered it gave it some gravitas.

Holy crap.

Holy crap indeed. And here I am, seeing this mere weeks after hitting 53.

The very DAY I turned 53 I stumbled across a post somewhere showing various old celebrity photos with their ages at the time of each pic. The example for 53 was freaking Mr. Roper from Three’s Company.

Clearly there is an active internet conspiracy to make me feel truly geriatric.

Glad you learned more about 3DN....but i would place: Joy to the World, One, Old Fashion Love Sond, Easy to be Hard, Ceelebrate, and more were more popular. Great thing about music....there is a band that reaches everyone in their own way.
I do agree their songs were clever and fun.....and as i matured i grew into other groups

We went to see the Eagles a few weeks back and the Doobie Brothers were opening for them. (Surprisingly, there were a lot of people excited to see them.) My wife, who is in her early 40's joked that she was the youngest one at the concert.

Random fact, the Doobie Bros equipment hauler has been in my kitchen (ro). He’s a great story teller with several decades as a contract rock and roll semi driver…

The 3DN concert was enjoyable. Hutton is the only original and he is 81! They played all thei top 40 hits, some better than others where they were voacally challenged.

I work for a young company. I made a reference to a Seinfeld episode and learned no one in the room knew what I was referring to (the "I'm out" episode where George learns from Jerry to always leave on a high note). On another note, to have understood what was going happening on 9-11 you'd have to be, what, 14 years old? Well, 9-11 is now 22 years old. So someone under the age of 36 probably doesn't understand the significance of that event on the nation at that time. If someone is 30, you may have to explain why 9-11 was so significant. They don't know a world where you can walk into an airport and go to the gate by just walking through a metal detector.

Steve Miller is on tour. I didn't think he looked "old back in the day. The Midnight Toker is now............

Eighty years young.

That's because there is not really any good music coming out anymore. The old stuff is great and makes you feel good!! New stuff, not so much...
Agree wholeheartedly , but previous generations would say the same thing about the music we were listening to back in the day. Just yet another sign of old age, I guess.

I just don't agree with that. There is a lot of really good music out there.
I know right?! The key is training up your sons then they introduce you to the cool new stuff as you get old. Some examples are Jeff the brotherhood, automatic and parquet courts
Does this suck?

I have a pretty open mind when it comes to music. The only music I don't really like is Country, I will listen to it but just could never really get into it. Yes there is some new good music that comes out but getting people exposed to it seems to be a problem now that everyone just downloads the stuff they always listen to or the old heads rely on Pandora to play things like the Rolling Stones. I listen to XPN out of Philly via streaming daily and they turned me on to a lot of good new music. I really enjoy Cosmic Guilt, She She She, Wet Leg, Hosier, Brandi Carlisle, etc.
