My friend took me for a spin in his Ferrari 812GTS today in McLean, VA. It was f*cking insane. He shows up to Katie’s cars and coffee from time to time too - let me know when you’re in town and I’ll see if he plans to go then. He has three Ferrari’s on order too including the new SUV (his will be the V12 version that was exclusive for the first hundred orders or so).

This isn’t his car, but looks like it. He also has a silver one that has racing stripes that he doesn’t drive much. And others that are track exclusive in Europe.

Allie Ash was the original owner of Ferrari of Washington . Had him “chauffeur “ me around town in a rental car while I was at a race in Daytona . Scared the living sheet out of me . Definitely an odd experience buying Ferrari’s. Your purchase of a new car 🚗 s restricted by your zip code and the closest dealer (if it’s under 200 miles I think ). Usually have to already own a Ferrari or two to get on a new car wait list . Waiting and waiting was the norm . Was like COVID car purchases before COVID . They’re usually not the warmest fuzziest to purchase from as the demand is so far beyond production . Worked with both Wide World of Cars in NY and Algar now Ferrari of Philadelphia. Got to be good friends with the owner of Ferrari of Atlanta . Great guy who was originally from PA. His family owned multiple newspapers . Ownership was more of a privilege than a profit maker not too long ago. Definitely need deep pockets to be more on the inside , but there’s always someone with more money. Cool stuff though . The exhaust notes are truly musical .

No comparison but when I was at PSU my girlfriend's uncle had bought 3 original Dodge Vipers as an investment. We went to visit him in Buffalo and he let me take each of them for a ride. I got one of them on the highway and hit 130 mph in 4th gear and was still at low RPMs. It was fantastic and I couldn't imagine what a ride in one of those units your friend has would be like.

My brother-in-law just bought a '61 Corvair.
Had a '60 Corvair in my senior yr in HS...brought it for $250, used more oil than gas.
Now driving a 2020 Chrysler 300 Limited.....AWD
So far, it's proven capable of traversing unplowed rural country Twp. roads and making it up our 1,800 feet of dirt road with very steep slopes before plowing the snow.
So, it's been a beast in winter storms.

Kind of odd on Vipers as the pedals were not in a straight line from the car seat, offset to the left. This was uncomfortable, and your right calf would rub against the center console which on longer rides got hot AF. Definitely a cool ride though.

My black Hopat detective friend drove one of those, called it his drug dealer car. He was full tint and got pulled over all the time.

I'm left handed so that was no worry. 🤣 I'm also 6' 2" and don't remember having that issue but I was a college kid on a short ride. I remember making sure I didn't burn my leg on the side pipes when exiting. It was also the the first time going over 100 with no roof over my head. I'll never forget that feeling.

My fav viper story is a friend of a friend just bought a viper. I asked what color he got, he said ”gray, I don’t like to stand out”
Looks good. I never get to get the wild colours, mom's is okay with the car choices but she gets to veto colour choices. Loved this limited edition Green, but wouldn't buy it unless i lived in Miami.

😎

Visitors to the 1939 New York World’s Fair Highways and Horizons exhibit by General Motors were dazzled by the display of a one-of-a-kind 1939 Pontiac Deluxe Six Plexiglas (Ghost) car.
This specially fabricated see through vehicle was constructed of acrylic plastic (quite an advancement at the time) which made visible the many parts that created the Deluxe Six. All screws and fasteners were chrome-plated for dramatic effect.
In the mid-1930s, Rohm & Haas was developing automotive safety glass. The glass used in car windshields is actually a laminate, with a thin layer of clear plastic pressed between two sheets of silicon glass.
When a windshield shatters in a crash, that plastic keeps razor-sharp shards of glass from flying into the car’s occupants. Fortuitously, Rohm & Haas realized that one of the acrylic compounds it used to make safety glass could work by itself as a transparent material for glazing and other applications.
To publicize the new material, the chemical company and one of its biggest customers, General Motors, decided to build a very special Pontiac.
Complete with model showing the spaciousness of the trunk.

That is really amazing.

This guy is big in the Ferrari community in the area and has race cars he keeps overseas for track racing. Apparently his buddy invented a color for Ferrari to use and that’s the color he’s using on his SUV - some kind of version of blood red. Cool stuff but a very expensive hobby…

Saw a red Lotus at the GF Library today after school. Not sure which model - looked cool though.

What color you getting?
The only colors out right now are the first editions. Lotus is rumored to be showing the full color palate this summer.
I like these 2 a lot but don’t know if they’ll be offered
chrome orange

Sky Blue

Interesting in the colors are most consistent with the Gulf livery used on the Shelby and 911.

The base C8 Vette is so good that Chevy could probably double the price.

Here’s an idea when your children get old enough to learn how to drive.

You text him and say that as part of your parental training you would like your child to experience “horsepower” so as to learn how dangerous powerful vehicles can be and that you would appreciate him offering his Ferrari just to see what kind of response you get. 😀
