Big shake ups for some all time leaders…

Now add the Japanese Pro League and crown Ichiro hit king.

What does it mean for great MLB statistics?

Negro Leagues legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Josh Gibson will become MLB’s single-season record holder in batting average (.466 in 1943), slugging percentage (.974 in 1937) and OPS (1.474 in 1937). Gibson, who played for the Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays, also becomes MLB’s career leader in all three categories. The previous records for slugging and OPS in a season and career were both held by Barry Bonds.

Well it was for MLB. A fact is a fact no matter how much one dislikes it having been so.

Are they going to start saying there were multiple World Series winners for the same season for a span of years?
Does this really matter in the grand scheme of things? Not really IMO. MLB was watered down and so were the other leagues due to this...that too is also a fact. Shane Gillis on Alabama football integration comes to mind.....too funny.

PSA:

Pennsylvania’s own (Gillis) doing it the old fashioned way. Watch ‘Tires’ on Netflix if you’re not already.

Just put asterisks all over the record book.

Nothing’s stopping anyone from taking apples and oranges into consideration. The Federal League stats 1914-5 are official major league stats, this isn’t something new. There are other leagues having their stats included too. AFAIK, the Negro Leagues were the only major league that didn’t have their stats counted by MLB. I have to call the Negro Leagues a major league, they had players who would definitely have been stars in the AL or NL. If the 1914 Federal League can be considered a major league, the Negro Leagies can be too. The best baseball players played in these three leagues, NL, AL, Negro Leagues.

Are all American League stats counted into the all-time stats? AL was originally considered major league , was it?

You mean the American Association, amirite?

Yeah. The third paragraph in the OP link says as much.

Well, it allows the TPTB to take Bonds off some records. I think they should add in the Japanese leagues as well. I'd love if the all time hits leader is a guy at at 4,367, and hearing Pete Rose scream that is just wrong would give me further satisfaction.

Also, it would gets Bonds off another record. Career homers would be 868.

I know baseball loves messing with the records, but just keep them contained within their respective eras. Stop trying to tell me that Babe Ruth and Ohtani can be fairly compared. They can't be, so just give me the stats, tell me when they played, and move on.

That’s the best anyone can expect.

Some entities are obsessed with attempting to alter and rewrite history..

I believe that is what MLB is doing.

The best reason I've read is that top to bottom, it is not as strong as MLB. The one metric I've seen for this is the average pitching speed, which in the MLB is something like 91mph, and in Japan is something like 89mph. They consider the 2 MPH difference significant. That said, Ichiro would have success anywhere, in any league. Ohtani too.
