Gee, I know guy on the Board who warned us that we'd potentially be on the hook for another $20m a year in payments to players yet not one word was shared to anyone about how we were going to manage that in addition to incredible debt service on our stadium renovations... They haven't announced a $5m dribble donation in the past month... did those already dry up too? The crazy part is - I think he was the only one on the Board who even raised their hand to ask...

I will add to my lawyer prognostication that this is all going to end in a bad way. Give a bunch of 17 and 18 year olds removed from home discretionary cash and then count the days until there are numerous allegations of drug purchases, gambling, prostitution and the like. Money always finds a way.
So much hinges on the approval of the House settlement, and that's no where near a guarantee now. What a ish show.
If a player commits a personal foul in the NFL, there could be a financial penalty (executed by the NFL onto the player)

Speaking as a faculty member at a university, what kind of pressure will be applied to faculty members to keep a high NIL player eligible?
Probably in proportion to how good they are, and if you're at a major D1, many of those players will be making many multiples of what you're making.
Interesting you bring this up. I had to dump my tickets to the OSU game and watch it on TV. I was compelled to watch all of the pregame hoopla. Those at the game may have not known that all-everything Colorado Buff Travis Hunter was in attendance, live at the Beav. Both pregame shows interviewed him live and I happened to catch both. One of them, I think ESPN, asked him to walk them through a typical day in the life of Travis Hunter. He started at 5AM and talked them through the day. Not once did he mention class or school work.
How can universities give NIL contracts? I thought NIL was separate from the university.

Give 17 and 18-year-olds the responsibilities of full-time jobs, in addition to the responsibilities of alleged academic studies ... and we don't worry at all about how they're going to handle it.
Pay them for their full-time jobs, and now we have to protect them from drugs, gambling and prostitution because they just can't handle being fairly compensated.

Until there is player input/agreement in the form of a union that can collectively bargain, this just creates more issues IMO. Right now the schools are going to try to police NIL deals via Deloitte, who will determine if a deal is valid/fair and if not, will direct the player to end it. Good luck with that.

Oh there are so many improper influences based on NIL already that there is no mystery as to why coaches like Tony Bennett at UVA have left coaching. Just imagine what a school's largest NIL donor can do to influence redshirting and roster management, playing time, recruiting, assistant coach hirings and firings, etc. If you think this is not going on, consider yourself naive.
