I think this could work because they have the space to develop without compromising the tailgating atmosphere which is integral to the college football game day experience. That said, this looks really interesting....

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The University of Tennessee is exploring a public-private partnership to build an entertainment district next to Neyland Stadium featuring a hotel, condos, restaurants and retail space.

School officials announced Wednesday that they have begun a Request for Information (RFI) on the feasibility and impact of a Neyland Stadium entertainment district along the Tennessee River waterfront on the campus, city and surrounding area.

An initial proposed concept would be anchored by a full-service, 12-story hotel at the south end of Neyland Stadium with a rooftop bar or amenity space overlooking the home of
Tennessee football.

Tennessee is also spending about $300mm on Neyland Stadium upgrades as follows:
  • Building a Stadium Wi-Fi network
  • Adding two sets of letters spelling out V-O-L-S in a reintroduction of a traditional stadium feature
  • Addition of private suites and lounge called ‘Founders Suites’
  • Restrooms under Gate 10 ramp – provide restrooms for high-traffic entrance and hospitality area
  • Add new tiered seating, food & beverage service to upper north plaza area
  • Add a 12,000 sq/ft indoor club space under the new chairback seating deck in the lower west premium club
  • Renovations to skyboxes to include common spaces and add operable windows
  • Expand plaza entries and extend exterior concourse zones in southwest and southeast entries
  • Brick cladding for exit/entryways and Gate 11 ramp to create a cohesive architectural style
  • South concourse 1 expansion to include new, additional bathrooms and concessions
  • Kitchen, commissary and loading deck
  • South concourse 2 chairback seats
  • LED ribbon board replacement
  • New state-of-the-art sound system
  • North videoboard and plaza area
  • West lower bowl chairback seating

How does Penn State not see the obvious - which is, the Ira Lubert Casino, Hotel, and Entertainment Complex at Beaver Stadium?!? This is obvious fellas!

They left out the strip club and river casino.

I’ll make a less than bold prediction: UT will achieve a 0 grad rate in revenue sports in the next 5 years. Not 12 percent when they won the national championship. A true goose egg.

Knoxville has a population of nearly 200k. No sure how many the Grand Lubert Hotel and Casino will draw in the offseason.

Looking at the area surrounding Neyland vs. The Beav;

The area around Neyland is already developed and I would assume it's a re-development. I don't know anything about VOL tailgating (other than the boats). The Beav has baseball, basketball, hockey, softball, soccer fields adjacent to it, and then all the open fields for parking. Not conducive for private development on University property.

But hey, it's a thought.

Yeah, but - do we really need parking and sports that don't make any money?

But does their alumni and fans go on forums to bash/complain/***** & moan about anything involved with the expansions for multiple pages? If not, they have a lot of catching up to do.

I mean, they got their elected officials to campaign against hiring Greg Schiano - makes this look like amateur hour…

Clearly you do not grasp the untapped potential of making Beaver Stadium suitable for year round events.

While we’re at it let’s extend a rail line from Harrisburg to State College out by the stadium complex. They can run trains up there for special events once the Beav is more than just football, concerts, and all the PSU sports. There won’t be an excuse about driving over the mountains in the winter. Have it unload right at a similar entertainment complex like Tennessee. Hey, it’s just money. 😂😂

Well they don’t have a good football team so they should invest in something else.

Can upgrade Innovation Center in a similar fashion. Add bus transportation back and forth from stadium.

I have to laugh at you suggesting Innovation Park can be upgrade in a similar fashion as to the area around Vols stadium. That is like saying Nittany Mall and King of Prussia Mall have similar potential.

TIC. Haven’t figured where to flood for the lake to put a Marina. Bald Eagle Lake is too far away and Whipple Fam can’t handle the boats. Guess we could move State College to Philly. 😂
