In your co-workers defense, Taylor was 14, and in Junior High, when she moved out of Wyomissing.

Yeah, going back and thinking about the awkward skinny girls with long limbs and how we found them too skinny or gangly and then they grow up to be Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift. D’oh!

I always get on my coworker's case about missing his chance with Swift. He was a classmate of hers at Wyomissing. He said she was gangly and nowhere near as attractive as she is now. He was a future D1AA football player and she had a thing for football players. I guess some things don't change.
And if it didn’t work out he at least could have had a #1 song written about him.

Nothing against her. but it shows how far we have fallen as a society when a pop culture icon is the best we can do. i guess you missed that part of my post.

You also chose to ignore FDR (several times) the American soldier and a host of other.

Sad for you bro.
Sorry, I don’t agree. Swifts selection is refreshing, justified and in no way an indictment of present day society. The Beatles were Time’s “Persons of the year” in 1967. 56 years later Swift isn’t too much of a drop.

ok i will say it....

She seems like a nice enough person but if that is all that takes to. be person of the year we have fallen so far as a society that we will never recover.

And my comment is not reflective of this young lady.
I don’t think you understand the criteria for person of the year.

Tough to complain about Swift after the back-to-back selections of Hitler and Stalin in ‘38 and ‘39.
It’s kind of like Harold Baines getting into the baseball HOF or Guy Carbonneau getting into the hockey HOF. Once they’ve gotten the honor the door is open for just about anybody else.
It’s not the best person who is Person of the year. That’s not the criteria.

Still waiting for Ro’s response to this.

There was an article in the local paper (actually the paper's website) about Taylor performing a free concert years ago at one of the local high schools. Very few people attended and she hung out with the students and took pictures after the show. If those kids only knew what they were missing!
In 2007 I attended a concert at the old Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. The headliner was George Strait. The openers were Taylor Swift and Ronnie Milsap, in that order. TS was just coming onto the radar and started the night by singing five songs. She had a guitar and was still in her country phase - wearing a knee length country style dress and cowboy boots. After her set was finished, she said she would be on the concourse signing autographs and would stay as long as necessary to be sure anybody who wanted an autograph got one. I don't doubt she did just that. Anyone who got an autograph and photo with her would certainly have a conversation piece today. If only they'd known what she'd be in 2023. Imagine her doing something like that today. Craziness.

As an aside, George Strait and Ronnie Milsap were both outstanding.
