To put "performance" in a more accurate light, the US Men have not gotten to even a World Cup semi-final game since the 1930's, while the US Women have WON four of the past eight World Cup titles. Big Difference!
Russ Rose won 7 National Titles, and yet James Franklin likely made 10+ times more money…it’s apples vs oranges (and being a big fish in a small pond).

But the players got the same scholarship… 🤔.
Title 9…doesn’t apply in the real world (or with NIL as that becomes more prominent). If schools were free to pay players a market value, those women’s swimmers wouldn’t be getting the same benefits as football players.

Looks like it will apply to US Soccer going forward.

And depending on where it all lands, it’s a net loss for US soccer. One thing that people are missing is that this settlement depends upon the USMNT coming to an agreement to share the revenue going forward in their next agreement.

How so? Seems like all that extra money and fancy coach didn’t do much for the men but the women kept winning. That likely to change anytime soon?

Didn’t do much for the men? We just won our region last summer in our continental championship and in the newly formed Nations League. Berhalter is off to a really good start.

And if you were paying attention, the women had a pretty disappointing summer, some of which is due to the reasons I hate the agreement…it locks certain women into the National Team, which gives the coach less flexibility to turn over the roster. We got old, yet our hands were tied as we needed to start the youth movement earlier than we did.

It also hurts the men as we try to recruit dual-internationals, hire coaches, etc. If PSU decided all sports needed to be supported the same, it doesn’t mean 31 sports now getting a ridiculous operating budget; it means that football takes a hit as we raise funding everywhere else. The US women already get better support than any other country in the world, but the same can’t be said about the men. By getting into “equal pay”, it likely only gets worse.

I was talking about the previous coach who made more than double the current men’s coach. Appreciate the insight!

Right. People get caught up in ‘equal pay’ and think that is the same as ‘equal pay rate’. The women argue that for them to earn as much or more than the men, they actually have to win (and they do, which is why their numbers can outperform men in certain circumstances). But if the men had the same success as the women, they would make a sh*t ton more. When the women asked for and received a guaranteed $100,000salary/year, they would get that win or lose. Under the men’s arrangement, they would get $10,000 per win, $5,000 per loss. So if both teams played and lost 20 matches they would make the same amount. If they both won all 20, the men double their salaries (plus have a lot more prize money to share).
And that is why this decision is completely wrong. The women negotiated a CBA. Under that CBA they made what they made. If they didn't like then they either shouldn't have signed it, chose not to play (strike just like in MLB, NFL, etc) or renegotiated when it expired. For them to go to court and get this settlement after they negotiated their CBA and agreed to and signed it, is wrong.

But, they did it, and they got more money....so....?

It's funny and sad to watch.
Not so sad. Being an old, retired white guy I kind of like the anonymity and diminished role. Not having the weight of so much responsibility and pressure on my shoulders as I had when I was working, is somewhat peaceful.

I am all for anyone getting paid as much as they can - it's not my money so good for them. Same with this concept of overpaid pro athletes like anyone would say - no no I am already making enough money no need to pay me more.

Roger Federer makes men look foolish on the tennis court too. Again - dumb video. This isn’t about whether men would beat women in a given sport. I actually agree with McEnroe about Williams. But, I’d rather watch a women’s pro tennis match over men’s because it’s far more entertaining IMO. For me - when it comes to pay/sponsorship of national teams, there should be parity. Professional sports is a different story and it should be whatever revenue can sustain.
That's the trick. The revenues are different. Vastly different. And this is professional--just not in a league.

Not necessarily. Minor sports often get partial scholarships as there are limits to how many you can give in a specific sport, and that's often less than the number of players on a team. It's not like football.

Since volleyball was noted, I'll mention that here. Men's teams get 4.5. Women's teams get 12.

I don’t get why this is hard. Take the revenue generated by each, and their players get the same % of that. If that means women are paid the same or more, then they obviously deserve it. If not, then they don’t.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve seen since the guy shooting his foot with an arrow. But indicative of how threatened men - especially white men - are by anything that challenges their status at the top of the food chain.
Thanks for your racist remarks.

Is “separate but equal” considered acceptable in today’s society in any other context?

I could not agree more. Particularly when it comes to the national soccer teams. The women are eminently more watchable. And successful. If someone else wants to watch the USMNT getting drilled by Paraguay, good for them. I'm out on that. The men should be gratified that they get paid as much as the women, in my opinion.

Now, in other sports, I have a different opinion. Particularly in basketball, where the difference in physicality is perhaps the most obvious. The reality is that there are simply two different products being offered, and one is FAR less physical.

To each his own, I suppose. To me, the difference in physicality in soccer is just as stark as in basketball. The men play MUCH faster, MUCH higher, and with MUCH more skill and power than the women. The U.S. men would probably beat the U.S. women 20-0 (likely worse) if they ever played one another. Watch a men's game up close, followed by a women's game, and the latter will be a cure for insomnia.

OK, so I got tired of trying to sift through the commentary on the new CBA between the USNMT, USNWT, & USSoccer to find the actual details. Found a pdf from USSoccer titled US Soccer CBA Fact Sheet.

https://cdn.ussoccer.com/-/media/project/ussf/governance/2022/cba-fact-sheet.ashx

The two main things are the pooling of all revenues to be divided equally and the fact that the women will no longer have guaranteed contracts which the men did not have. At least I think the women no longer have guaranteed contracts.

There are a lot of details of various bonuses, etc.

At the bottom of page four, both teams will now get retirement benefits (something that neither team had) and child care (something that the women’s team have had for 25 years).

The very last thing mentioned are three benefits for the women’s team only. Parental Leave, Insurance Benefits, and Short-Term Disability.

So, if I am reading this correctly, this Equal Pay agreement will actually be paying the women more.

For the record, I do watch and follow both teams.
