Dietzel was offered a BS Ambassador position with the university but he did not take it. Carlen was canned after I think going 6-6. It wasn't so much about the record but about his "private" life being paraded around in public and pissing off the wrong people. Bell lasted one season and I think he lost to Furman. Coach Morrison died on the job (One of the best coaches we ever had) Sparky Woods was hired and we joined the SEC and neither he nor our program was ready for that. Brad Scott was an OC not ready for the big chair. Holtz did not want the job. The best thing that occurred during the Spurrier era was Clemson getting rid of Tommy Bowden and several kids coming to us that Clemson thought they had wrapped up that year. The worst thing was Spurrier telling the truth about his plans to the press and putting Junior in charge of recruiting. Muschamp was at least the third choice and after our West Point president asked someone about how to fire a coach without paying a buyout, the curtain closed. I think the main thing Muschamp learned from his HBC days in Florida was how to negotiate a fat buyout. Not counting an interim coach, we had nine coaches in about 50 years. Do the math. We have had every type of coach you can think of. Maybe, with the young guys, we have in the program and the current recruiting class for 2024, maybe we should keep a guy who wants the job around for more the 5.4 years.
