In light of Jimmy Carter’s recent passing comes a song from my time at PSU in the late 70’s when economics times were crappy. Saw the mighty Kinks perform this as the first and last rock show in Eisenhower Auditorium!

Guy I worked with at a liquor store on the Jersey Shore (Weinstein’s anybody?) in the mid 90s claimed he was the Box Tops drummer and that Alex Chilton didn’t show up when this song was recorded so he sang it. I barely believed the first part, don’t believe the second part at all. Anyway, here you go:

Similar to The Monkees, Alex chafed against the Box Top producers who would hire studio musicians to play and record for the band, rather than letting the group play their own instruments and write their own songs. He moved on.
I like it. Reminds me a little of the Gin Blossoms for some reason.
