For a combination of skill and timeliness, the best PSU catches.

#1 for me is the Roundtree catch on 3rd and long, in the first TD drive, as I recall, of the Miami Fiesta Bowl. PSU loses if that catch isn’t made.

It was #30, Eric Hamilton. How my bad, all these years.

I had intended to start a thread on how many easy drops there are nowadays but decided to, f it, take a more positive road.
What is this "positive road" of which you speak?

Engram TD catch vs Michigan in 94 (after a number of years of undefeated starts and then getting tripped up in October, this got PSU over the hump)

Kenny Jackson spinarama TD in 48-14.

Michigan 2013- Brandon Moseby Felder, a couple of plays before the Robinson catch near the end zone, jumps over the defender to catch the ball, preserving the drive that would eventually tie the game. Robinson's catch was certainly important, but it does not happen with BMF making a critical catch.

Jesus. It took 8 posts to get the right answer (and you listed it second!).

There is one and only one Top Catch. It is Garrity laying out in the 83 Sugar Bowl.
Everyone else is vying for 2nd place
Everyone is forgetting the five "receptions" our defense had against Vinny in the Fiesta Bowl... Instrumental to the Natty!

Funny thing is I was going to bring up even a different catch on that same drive...it opened with a pass to Robinson on the sideline that was initially called incomplete because it seemed to be impossible that he made the catch. It was an unbelievable play, and came at a critical time. Quite the drive looking back on it.

1993 -- started season 5-0, lost the next 2
1992 -- started season 5-0, lost to Miami at home and went on to lose next 4 of 6

Perhaps I should have said 'a couple' instead of 'a number'.
CD…was fooling around. Young Frankenstein!

Yeah, I thought about that one also, but I really think BMF's play is often overlooked, especially in light of the play by Robinson a short time later.

Easy!
Gregg Garrity catches the bomb for national championship and

pete giftopolous catch of Vinny testeverde for the national championship.

no two catches were bigger in Penn state history.

3rd may have been fitzkee but he was a yard short of a national championship possibility.

Bump. I went to the tape to check the down and yardage, it was 3rd and 13, like I remembered, and see it’s #30. Me to myself: Roundtree had a single digit number, better check. I wanted to give Hamilton his just due. Great throw and catch.

So many to pick from ...

1. Greg Garrity laying out to muffle the Dawgs.

2. Giftipolous final interception, but how about all the others.

3. Kenny Jackson at Pitt Stadium. Happy Birthday, Jackie.

4. Bobby Engram at Michigan

5. Allen Robinson against Michigan

6. Kirk Bowman for the TD/Mike McCloskey for the 1st down in the 4th quarter against Nebraska in 1982.

7. Scott Fitzkee caught a touchdown from Chuck Fusina at WVU in 1978. Blanketed by the defender on his left shoulder and at the last second caught in stride over his right shoulder. I'd love to see a replay.

Pete Giftopoulos Fiesta Bowl against Miami. PSU probably loses that game if he doesn't make that catch.

If you're counting interceptions, a nomination here for Shane Conlan's second pick that set up D.J. Dozier's game-winning touchdown against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl. It was a tough catch and a good run by Shane who seemed hobbled a bit.

This right here

This also gets #1 because it was four years to the day after the Sugar Bowl loss to Alabama that proved once again eastern football wasn't up to snuff. In a large part this catch ended all of that for once and for all.

Minutes before that catch, I had a buddy who is a huge Pitt fan call me and point out that Pitt was up 14-0 and gonna smoke us. I intentionally waited for about an hour after the game before making my call to him, to prolong the agony he knew was coming.
