I feel that the 1977 PSU Football team deserves more credit as a "great" team.
If my memory serves me, their only loss was to Kentucky who I think finished the season with 1 loss.
PSU had some great college players...the debut of Millen and Clark, stable of good running backs and receivers, excellent offensive line.
Did anybody else notice Mike Guman at DB?
Saw Fran Ganter on the sidelines.
Great memories here.
NC State's Ted Brown was one of the nation's best TBs in the late 70s.

That 1977 Kentucky team was their best squad in quite a while. Derrick Ramsey as a dual-threat QB, and All-American Art Still at DE, both great college players.
That 1977 Kty game game at PSU, rainy first half and we led 20-14 at halftime. Sunny 2nd half and we couldn't sustain much. Kentucky outscored us 10-0 in the 2nd half to steal a tough win.
1977 was the Fiesta Bowl season where we ran wild over Arizona State, 42-30. The stage was set for another great run in '78, but we missed a few guys more than anticipated come bowl time. Cefalo, Sidler, Shuler all were gone in '78, among a couple others.
Imo, the '77 team was as good as (ok, maybe a tiny notch below) the '78 team, which is saying a lot.

Bo Rein was killed on a recruiting trip after becoming the HC at Wisconsin, which was after his LSU stint, if I recall.
Sad nonetheless.

2nd in Heisman the following season, 1978.
Yes 78.

Bob -Bo was killed as HC of LSU. Jerry Stovall (sp?) took over

In January 1980, Rein took a recruiting trip to Shreveport, Louisiana. On his January 10, 1980, return trip back to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, his private aircraft crashed, leaving no survivors.[3]

Had to look it up as to why I was stuck on a Wisconsin's HC unexpected death. Dave McClain was the Wisconsin HC who died from cardiac arrest in the off-season in 1986.
That's what I get for posting off the top of my head - an alternative fact sneaks in now and then!

+1. Its funny even though they played Bama for the Championship in '78 I thought the '77 team was better. Same with the '82 team. I thought the '81 team was better.🤷‍♂️

Ha. Would be a step up from some of OOC teams we schedule. Plus, they also do tailgating right at NC State, and many of the ladies are a nice gameday sight as well.
There are plenty of nice looking ladies at most college campuses, and tailgating is not that important. You can "tailgate right" pretty much anywhere.

PSU did no one any favors by scheduling Syracuse. Except Syracuse. NC State would be the same thing.

I doubt NC State needs Penn State to come to town to have a great crowd. Syracuse on the other hand, yes they would.

Carter Finley is a small venue as well.

Let's face it. PSU should be sprinkling in some home and homes with big school/OOC matchups: Georgia (mirror images in some ways - big fan bases who travel, both big venues), Tennessee (remember the series well), and Texas (have hosted them before) come to mind. Maybe A&M who we played a few times as well.

I think we should play UNC, NC State, and/or Wake home and home, as long as we play the away game in Charlotte.

Always thought it interesting that Ramsey and Still, both being from Camden, NJ, would end up at Kentucky. I understood why when I read the story of their attempted recruitment by Schembechler at Michigan. Apparently, the high school coach for Ramsey and Still wanted to be paid a significant sum by whatever school the pair would choose (I'm sure Ramsey and Still were getting a piece as well). Schembechler actually recorded a conversation with the high coach where coach repeated his demands. Schembechler sent the tape to the NCAA and never received a response.

Nah. You play NC State and UNC in their stadiums and don’t play WF at all.
Play 'em in Charlotte, big stadium and more media, opening weekend. Big recruiting draw with Charlotte Mecklenburg being rife with talent.
