Franklin 100% knows that Drew Allar is the best QB prospect since Christian Hackenberg that PSU has recruited. He knows his ceiling is far higher than Clifford's. But Allar is a true freshman and we are heading into the meat grinder of our schedule. Just because Clifford starts doesn't mean that James Franklin doesn't know what is reality.

Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio State are the next 3 games. All 3 are winnable games but we could lose all 3 games. If we lose 2-3 of those games, then I’m all in with playing Allar the rest of the year.
I don't think there's any doubt that Clifford will start. I just hope Franklin doesn't wait until we're too far behind to give Allar a shot.

Not sure about next game, but I’d be willing to wager that Allar will be the starter by the end of the season.
By Nov 1, Penn State will either still in the playoff hunt or the Drew Allar era will begin. Clifford is essentially playing for his job over these next 3 games. He has to realize this even with Franklin's loyalty to his starting QB. He has to go 2-1 over these 3 games to keep his job. We will see a better Clifford than we have seen the past 2 weeks as he will start running again. He is going to leave it on the field over this next month because these are the 3 biggest games and he has QB1 breathing down his neck.

Side Note:
While I was watching the 1st half of the Northwestern game, I was thinking the only way Allar gets in this game is if Penn State gets behind. Clifford had trouble throwing the ball in that weather. He was floating a lot of his passes. It would have been interesting to see if Franklin would have pulled Clifford in that scenario. Luckily we did not have to find out.
