I always enjoy this announcement. Numbering has reflected the weirding-off of the game since the days when we were told to eat dirt and like it. The O-line numbers are solid but can we just get back to WRs with 80-89, and 1-9, stop with the DL in anything other than the 70s or 90s save the 90's for the kickers? I have red *** that the Florida State transfer is not wearing an 80 number, love the Duck at 29. Penn State has had enough studs that there are so few numbers with a renowned history. I am hoping the Duck changes that tune.

For a long time, PSU did not issue singled digit numbers - the lowest you could go was 10. That changed sometime in the mid 1980s, as I remember Marques Henderson had #3 during the 1986 season.

It was 1984, Henderson (3), Ray Roundtree (6), Matt Knizner (7) and others were the 1st to wear single digits.

thanks for that piece of info, I did not know that and once again the Penn State fan base is rich in the history of its great program. PS Roundtree's talent distracted Joe and caused him to obsess on end-arounds. I hope Ray did well in his football afterlife.
