The M State logo was drawn up by a student Mgr in the late 1980’s, like ‘89 or maybe 1990 and given to Templeton and he loved it.
Possible that he took it to Richard Williams and asked his input but Williams DID NOT draw it on a napkin and nor was he the architect of the M State banner.
Said former Mgr is not receiving royalties from the image/logo due to Templeton being the cheap SOB he was/is!

Looks like Banner M is here to stay. Fans can go kick rocks and an IPF will take until 2028 to get done. Lol 😂
I only heard part of his Interview on dawgs talk. So thanks for the info.

Selmon actually said MState was still the primary logo a year ago. However a couple asshats with a podcast (and their lemmings) can't shut up about it. So I say if you don't like the Mississippi State University logo. Bye bye.

Also if any businesses are reading this.... especially clothing stores.... if you advertise on their podcast. I'm not buying a damn thing there.

The banner M was actually Marshall’s track logo. Someone saw it & liked it & took it to Richard Williams and the rest is history.

Dang. Did they both either kick your a$$, or did they hook up with your girlfriend?

That interview is really sobering. Says Banner M is here to stay. Interlocking is for special occasions. Players pick the uniforms and Yada, Yada, Yada to everything else. But we need money...lol Send more money but what you want doesn't matter.
I admit not reading, wherever it is posted, but yep send as much money to us as possible so that we can make the choices for you because you're opinions don't matter and we know better than you. Trust us we're from the guvment....

I've never seen or heard of an administration where they are intentionally not giving the customers what they want. That interview pissed me off more. Go to the interlocking emblem for football and let it be footballs thing just like the M over S is baseballs thing, it's not that freaking hard

Yeah, I wish the dude would promote State and give as many kudos as his compadres do for their school!

Source/link to this interview?

Thanks!!!
It's on the premium board. You'd have to get a sub. He also did a separate interview with Rosebowl if you a 247 sub.

It was very depressing though. Doesn't seem like we are trying to improve the DWS gameday experience or put interlocking back on anything. That's about all I'll say.

Seems to be the path of least resistance. As long as the official logo is on the 50 and on TV, and on the side of the stadium. Selmon is right about that.

Most important thing the customers want is “winning”

You seriously lack understanding. But hey, contrary to the belief 20 years ago, we need sheep like you who support, well, anything. There’s a place for that.

Bur don’t even try to talk down to strategic thinkers. Just do your thing, know your role, etc. Support.
You are genuinely one of the most ignorant people in the history of this board and thats saying a lot. “Durrr we should keep bad logo bc we consistently have had it! 20 years, it wins us games!”

Buuuuut.....it's not a bad logo. It's recognized far and wide throughout the country.

Even Salmon recognizes this (or at least he said it, I don't know that he agrees).

I’m not a premium member which means I didn’t read the article. Considering that this is SPS, I know I can feel free to opine about this topic since uninformed commentary about MSU is one of our staples.

All of this is to ask: Did you really expect Selmon to say that we’re spending freely in a time when new budget items will be coming up that will require funding?

Of course not.

It’s to be expected that with this seal of the Athletics Apocalypse being broken that MSU’s response would be to follow the Gospel of St. Larry in the Black.

Buuuut it is, just because its recognized as being ****** doesnt make it good. He said its the logo for the university and not athletics, not his choice in that matter.

I thought it was some really tone deaf responses to give when your football team is 1-7 and your fans are starving for any kind of hope.

It was wise. He knows that he will be eviscerated for anything he says that does not pan out. In that position, you can peddle in general hope, but if you get into specifics and they don't happen, some portion of the fanbase will wear you out about it. Given that a decent portion of the fanbase, if SPS is considered representative, hated him as a choice before he ever got off the plane in Starkville, he'd do well to under promise and over deliver. Not that those fans will ever be on board regardless of results...

I disagree as I think most people have been generally pro-Selmon so far. But at some point you’ve gotta make some things happen in that job. He’s not exactly the new guy anymore, in January he’ll have been two full years on the job.

When the situation is bleak, you’ve gotta give your fans something to latch onto and look forward to. If literally everything feels terrible and you’re not giving folks anything to look forward to, what incentive do people have to care?

Agreed. I love Selmon’s energy, and from a sheer personality perspective, he’s pretty dang close to an ideal representative of our university in my eyes. That said, he’s not being paid to shake hands, and at some point, he’s got to start delivering results.

We’re in a weird time right now, and I don’t envy him or any AD. If we want to compete, we have to play ball with NIL and revenue sharing. However, doing that also means that a lot of that excess $ we used to pour into facilities and upgrades will now be redistributed to players that may not even make a bowl game, so guess what… if we want ribbon boards, new sound systems, etc, it means you’re going to have to shell out more. Then, someone preaches to us about how State has to be smart about its money and this era, all while giving millions away to coaches that can’t get a defense into the Top 120

It’s hard to know what to think these days, but the one thing that’s certain is that it’s a giant mess

The major brands across college sports have that recognizable logo, and many times that is the school's official logo: Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon, Texas A&M, Texas, Clemson, Miami, Penn State. Those look really sharp, and are the focal point for many things around campus.

Some don't, and that's OK, if you got another long-standing recognizable logo, like Ole Miss, LSU, Florida.

Let's face it, &tate is trying to copy Ole Miss. Until someone introduces a real logo that can last, banner M state needs to stay as the focal point of athletics. Uniforms can change, helmets can change, but the overarching symbol should not. It's just the smart thing to do.

The current Banner M was designed by a branding company in 2009. It has been tweaked like 3-4 times since then.

The Banner M is the university logo. It's not going anywhere, and honestly there's nothing wrong with it. The jihad against it is really weird.
