The weather was a major factor for sure. Hoping we don’t have 1 fumble or interception against M. A tough win, hats off to N defense they were ball hawks today. Thank god our defense was even better.

Such an uninspired game. NW is terrible but they actually were the better team in the second half which isn’t saying much. What is it with Franklion in October/ November and bad weather? They just seem like they don’t want to be there.

Learning experience for the young RBs.
PSU isn't winning the NC this year. It's all about implementing a new offense taylored to Allar and the RBs. Notice the few RPOs.

The defense is much improved as well. The last few years I yelled to the DL to get their hands up on a pass. This year they are batting balls down.

I love watching this team play. They Rock!

If only "our" team could play a schedule against schools that don't have good coaches and scholarship players. "We deserve better,"

All I ever read on here is that Fitz is one of the best coaches in the Big and then we win against him, but not by enough, so we’re awful. I would think a coaching genius can keep a game close.

It wasn't pretty but I'll take that over a well played close L anytime.

See CJF? He was livid with the fumbles. Wonder what message was delivered to the RB's in the locker room...

Bad weather can make skill irrelevant

Seemed to me that Penn State played the game very conservatively, emphasizing the run, which under the circumstances was a good move considering the turnovers. Even with +2 turnovers, Northwestern couldn't do much of anything. Both defenses played "all out" and the PSU running backs seemed to get a bit tentative after the fumbles. It was just an odd game. I would've liked to see Penn State score another touchdown or two but the result would've been the same. Look at the stats and Penn State won this game handily.

And he’s lost to a MAC team and an FCS team this year. I agree he’s a good coach, but it shows even good coaches lose games they shouldn’t.
It happens....LOL....If you could pre ordain every outcome....why in God's name would we actually pad up and play?

The weather tends to negate speed and skill.

IMO, had it been dry and sunny, this game would have been a blowout.

That being said, when the passing game was utilized, most of the routes thrown to were medium to long. There was very little, if any utilization of short routes like to backs out in the flat or screens.

Cliff never looks to the flat first and then when he does, it’s too late and the defense gets there. Many times this season he does not go through progressions. He had Washington wide open and he was waving his hands and would have been an easy TD at Auburn. Same thing with one play with Lee yesterday, no one near him for an easy big gain, then Cliff throws to him and defenders are there

I drove 11 hours for this? Weather I mean!! Could be worse I could have stayed in Myrtle.

condtions were so bad that I can see the turnovers and shutdown of passing game. When we caught the long pass and northwestern on their scoring drive rain had stopped for most part at that time. Then started up again.
Allen is just awesome at 3-5 yard runs. We haven’t had that since royster? Hunt? So nice to see. Singleton was tough on the inside td run glad he found strength and mindset to make it happen. Very encouraging for him.
Clifford needs to slow down and relax a little bit. Stop running to the left and throw out of bounds. Parker was wide open and Clifford threw off back foot again for that one. No way though that allar should or would have come in.
hardy was burned again and was targeted by their coaches, Dixon great delfection of pass near the end incredible timing. Mustipher 8 tackles. Wahooo!

This board is no place for optimism. Although, I totally agree with your post.

To a degree this is true, but the turnovers should not have happened to the degree which we saw yesterday. I was on the livid side at the end of the game, but putting things into better perspective now, it was an over reaction. I mean look at Georgia's performance over the last couple of weeks, or worse, how would we like to be Oklahoma right now, or even PItt. Those fans may have better reasons to be pissed than do we. I'm expecting a much better performance (win or not) in two weeks.

I can't imagine anyone trying to put lipstick on that pig(yesterday). I'm speaking from personal experience as a player.....losing to a winless team in a torrential downpour......and winning by a TD on the very last play from scrimmage ....over a team that finished 1-9 in a year we went 8-2 (coaching)......bad weather tends to make everyone equal.

Even Fitz alluded to that prior to the game. I thought about that also, because I still have PTSD from the 1974 7-6 loss to Navy @ home in a torrential downpour. The Oldtimers on the board will remember that nightmare.

Even Taft was able to beat Bakersfield because of the downpour…and Reno Hightower, of course. The best damned QB who ever lived.
