Haven’t had a chance to watch, but will when I get some time. But this quote stood out to me. No excuse for not being excellent. It takes me back to Muschamp trying to explain to us, after year 3, that this place has “unique challenges”. Yeah, every place does. Do the job or get out. There are not other options.

Beamer also hit on the development side, noting that we need to get better there. Said for the most part the most successful guys were inherited, and we haven’t had many freshmen develop into contributors early on. That needs to change.

Beamer took a pretty direct, though factual, dig at Coley. "Previous receivers coach made decision he felt was best for his family, we collected the $450,00, then some, that we were owed, for violating or leaving his contract."

Beamer also said our WR development has been really bad. Sorry, Stepp.
Beamer's not wrong. I really like Justin Stepp and love having locals and/or alums in the program. But we needed a new WR coach and I would also venture to say that having Shawn Elliott coaching TEs is a better outcome than Stepp as well. And gives a 1:1 swap for Midlands natives.

Best wishes to Coach Stepp.

I sometimes think Shane says too much, but I'm on board with digs like this 100%.

If I were Beamer, I wouldn't have said that the defection of Coley had given me a chance to hire a "better" WR coach. That statement begs the question as to why he hadn't hired the "better" one to begin with.
That comment was for Furrey, nobody else. That’s just what Beamer does. He’s always going to publicly pump up his coaches and players. I don’t mind it. I know a lot of people thought it was great that HBC called out Ron Cooper to answer why his secondary got torched, but to me it looked like a guy not willing to take responsibility for the staff he’s supposed to be leading. I prefer Beamer’s approach.

With some forethought, he could have delivered the dart without unwittingly casting his earlier process as maladroit. Well, maybe HE lacks the knack.

That comment was for fans who can't see the obvious, as @King Ward just pointed out.
Similar to Elliott, perhaps Furrey wasn’t available until he let it be known that he was. It is funny to see so many nitpick Beamer’s words, then preach patience and discernment when Napier makes a comment that they’re just a program that anyone can beat every week.

Still, I think it’s a good hire. Now we have to go out and recruit some great WR’s. The room is weak. Can we still get one or two in the portal, or is it too late?

But have we been recruiting the best wide receivers in the Country? We were using back-up QBs there a good bit.

I was mostly struck by how blunt Shane was in calling out our WR development, which obviously falls on Stepp.
