Will be a huge opportunity. A lot of eyes will be watching this one. I like the Dec 30 date too.

Would be great to knock off the Irish! Hope our fans pack the stadium!

One of the things Clemson did in the early 10’s was take advantage of these types of matchups, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma. This sets up really well for y’all. It’s not an understatement that this type of game can change the trajectory of your program (not that you already haven’t seen it change from earlier this season). This game puts me in a very difficult situation. I hate ND with every fiber of my football being.

Great point. I think Beamer knows this too. Got a feeling we lobbied hard for this one. Possibly harder than ever before in a Bowl. Spurrier always seemed to get us in the best Bowl Game we could possibly qualify for. I think Beamer understands this. I believe every other coach we have had just takes what we’re handed. Not much you can do in the end…but it’s obvious some guys have influence. We had no business in Tampa against Iowa during the Garcia days. No doubt we worked hard to get this one.

Also, make note that this is a matchup of 2 of the most followed / creative (dept) coaches on Social Media. I’d expect some quality content coming out over the next 26 days or so.

Saw where Notre Dames starting QB hit the portal. Big opportunity for USC here. Doesn’t matter if ND isn’t that great. It’s all about beating the brand.

ND believes Tyler Buchner, their starting QB before getting injured early in the season, will be healthy and available to play in the Bowl Game. That’s likely why Pyne is leaving. He showed he can play and isn’t going to sit behind someone after playing this season. But we’ll see. If he’s not ready, they’ll start a freshman. Either way gotta stop the run and Mayer the TE.

That's going to hurt. Their #2 guy seems to not have played much.
Their #2 guy was actually their #1 heading into the season and started the 1st two games until he went out with an injury vs Marshall.

Unfortunately, this is true. Win anyway.

This is only good for us if we win, and even if we do, ND fans will say it's because their QB is transferring out. That said, I hope we kill them. I hate ND almost as much as I hate Clemson.
That’s part of bowl season now. Our shutdown corner isn’t playing either. Our QB at the end of the season last year didn’t play and we just played a WR at the position for the majority of the game and dominated. Bowl games are what they are. Losing isn’t THAT bad because they don’t really mean anything. But winning can really catapult a team into the offseason.

Were there a true playoff in FBS (and yes, I know expansion is on the horizon) as opposed to this ersatz deal we've had for the past few seasons, would those who "opt out" of the postseason stick around and play?

I think it’ll happen at some point. High draft stock. 4 possible games to get injured and hurt the draft stock. You better believe people will get in these guy’s ears. Vast majority will play. But I won’t be shocked one but when you see someone sit out a playoff game.

I pull for every single team over Notre Dame.

I would set up the scholarship such that if the student-athlete refuses to play in any postseason games due to NFL aspirations, then the school garnishes 80% of your first year's salary.

I pulled for Clemson once, when Notre Dame brought Joe Montana to Clemson. My hatred of Notre Dame surpasses my hatred of Clemson. Their fans up there that day were a-holes.

Only if everyone else in the country does it. You don’t want to be the only program with this. You won’t land any recruits.

That would been seen as too close to "pay-for-play" which everyone is trying to avoid for good reason.

Good point re: garnishment. Everyone else in the county might have to include the NFL.
It seems so dishonourable to me, akin to quitting on your team.

Jacksonville is 5:40 from Greenville by car, 4:20 from Columbia, and 3:50 from Charleston. If you want to go, there's really no excuses for missing this one.
