Davis with a much needed 3. We’re fortunate to be ahead with the way we played offense the last 5 minutes. Fortunately Missouri wasn’t much better.

57-50 with 7:08 remaining.

Why do we get sooooio lazy with our passes?
It looks like we’re running our offense as if they are in zone when they switched to man. It’s ugly. No screens. No penetration. Just standing around and passing the ball outisde. Hopefully we’ll adjust during this timeout. I’d take the 7 point lead as ugly as it was there for the last 5 minutes.

Rare miss from Johnson. And by rare, I mean 0-9. I agree with announcers though…gotta shoot through it. He’s a streaky guy. But I’d like to see Meechie drive with the basketball the next time he touches it. Make something happen or get an easy bucket. Everything is tossed inside or outside shot. No penetration by our guards.

Our offense has gone Frank Martin era cold here the last 4 minutes.

Shoot through it next game. 0-9, 0-7 from 3 and had his dunk blocked because he slowed up. We need him but he needs to sit the balance of this game.

I guess you no longer have to have set position as a defender. Lol

You can be moving, and moving your feet, as long as your body is vertical with no leaning, and you are in between the offensive player and the basket - no sideways movement when contact is made, nor moving forward into the player when contact is made.....

He slowed to time his steps on the dunk. His mistake was that he didn’t have enough separation and should’ve used his body and layed it in. Still an ugly play.

I wouldn’t complain if they sat him. I get it either way. But most coaches are absolutely going to want their best players to keep shooting. Under 5 I’m going with my hottest players. Obviously he’s not that today. But if he’s on the court, he’s got to keep shooting when it’s open. Worst thing is to get passive.

Punk move by this Missouri (#55) player. They should be able to call embellishment on this. Slowing the game down because he goes flailing on the floor and acting like Jacobi threw him down.

We need to be careful here. Couple of bad possessions offensively. Got fortunate with the long rebound / foul to Mack. Need to settle down and get a good look.

Murray-Boyles so good defensively. If he can develop offensively he could be solid.

Missouri fortunately let’s so much time run off before they foul. Wright back to the line.

34.4 left, 72-64.

4 players in double figures scoring.
  • Mack - 21
  • Cooper - 12
  • Wright - 11
  • Ugusuk - 10

Meechie was scoreless. But that’s who he is as a player. He can win a game for us when he’s on, but we’re good enough to win games when he’s off.

Avoided the letdown - good job of keeping composure and others stepping up when MJ is off.
Need to work on those lackadaisical passing episodes which crop up from time to time.

Gamecocks win 72-64 to improve to 17-3 and 5-2 in SEC play.

We were 8-25 (32%) from the field after halftime. We almost played ourselves into a loss, which would have been Missouri's first in league play this season, and pretty embarrassing. Glad we pulled it out regardless. We next take on #5 Tennessee in Knoxville, so to lose today would have been pretty tough to bear......

Great game for Ugusuk - he didn't even play in the earlier game at MO this season. Jacobi Wright added 11 pts 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Gray also contributed - 5 pts, 3 rebounds, and 1 block in 13 minutes. Our bench out-scored Missouri's 26-15, and shot a combined 8-12 for the game....

Lamont made the decision to sit him the balance of the game about the same time as my post. He kept his head when he was on the bench, but he needs to help us in other ways (assists, driving to the bucket) when his shot is off.

For those not at the game, they brought out all the new football players at halftime, including transfers. Beamer spoke for a bit. Ton of recruits there also.

I know that some disagree on the coaching ability of Shane but he is a great representative of the university when he's in front of the microphone.

They (SEC Network Crew) asked Paris about Meechie after the game. It was kind of odd because it was literally the 1st question which I thought was strange rather than just something simple like, “how important was this win?” He said he’d never pull Johnson because he was missing shots. Said he is too important to the team, that he still does so much in the game without the ball by moving around and is a good defender.

I’m not shocked he wasn’t in there at the end. As I mentioned, Under 5 you go with your hottest players and Meechie wasn’t that today. He wasn’t at the end of the other Missouri game either. He did put Meechie back in the game when it got down to offensive / defensive subs.

100% agree when Meechie is off, he needs to try something other than shooting 3’s. I’d like to see Paris draw something up for him in a game when for an easy bucket out of a timeout in a game where he’s already 0-4 or 5.

Meechie is great taking the ball to the hoop and he's a very good passer. In addition, he's a very good rebounding guard. Today, he didn't do much of anything. I agree, let him work through his shooting issues but if he's not contributing elsewhere, he needs to sit.

I like what he has to offer but today simply wasn't his day.

He’s a very emotional player. Most streaky guys are. Actually that reminded me of something else Paris did say…that as long as the shooting doesn’t affect those other parts of his game, he’s going to play.

There have been times, and today probably was one, where maybe it did happen. He clearly let the missed breakaway affect him. If he slams that, I bet his day goes completely different. But after the big UK game, with a possible letdown, seems like he had one.
