to headline. Considering there's nothing on 311's website or any other website to confirm this, the only thing I have to base this on is a fairly reliable source who works with Music Makers and the SA...

It would certainly kick things up a notch. But again, not official. If Gavin Degraw is the headliner, I will officially lose all faith and/or interest in anything Music Makers is doing. They have vastly underachieved and overpaid the last several years.

were on the sign the other day and thought it was cool they were playing. Heck, I am sure they are still a good bar band with the new singer. But, good bar bands failing to reach commercial success is almost a proverb.

opinion, but i believe travis is just as good (or pretty damn close) to shannon. now, having said that, i have never seen them live with shannon. however, i have a few of their dvd's with shannon, and from what i've seen of travis, he's pretty damn close. with regards to why they aren't as big now as they were with shannon and why, i believe it's because of a number of things (and none of them having to do with travis not being as good). first off, i think that most people haven't given travis a shot and/or don't even know they are still playing. the people that haven't given him a shot, i believe, are just going on the assumption that nobody can be as good as shannon/the original (which is a pretty accurate statement). however, travis is pretty damn good. last night when they rocked holy man only affirmed this, in my mind.

Based on what I have heard, he actually might become Shannon Hoon one day -- you know, what with all the genetic engineering and whatnot.

Their new stuff sucks, because the mind behind their music is no more. You were trying to explain why they aren't as successful now as they used to be when it's just this simple.

Its the SA that does Bulldog Bash. Not music makers. Music makers usually picks a better band like blues travelor.

311 would be an awesome if they came. Dont count on Gavin whoever to bring many people because he +%%##!$ blows. College kids like more 311 than Gavin Dewhatever.

It is a very good album. Travis is about as close to Hoon as they could could have possibly found. He even has a tattoo of Hoon on his back.
It is hard for bands to play on with new singers, but the Melon Heads found a diamond in the rough.

I am glad they are back!

Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, Black Crowes or Robert Randolph would be an excellent option. The argument about getting a panty dropper to sing, so there will be more girls is total ********. It's Bulldog Bash, it keeps gettin bigger and bigger each year no matter who plays. We might as well have a good musical experience to go with the crowd that it brings.

Agreed. We need to get a big name jam band to come because thats what college people like. I doubt they will ever let panic some back because of what happened the last time they came but we need a good jam band. If panic did come i might cream my pants.

I'm pretty sure Panic is banned (more formally asked not to come back) from Starkville because of the drug traffic and crowd control issues.

Crowd control issue was the University's fault. I dont know if they were actually (or could be) banned from a certain place. Maybe they were but the drug issue came because the starkville cops decided they would crack down just because panic was in town. They could arrest people like that everyday in starkville if they wanted to. Drugs are everywhere whether or not panic is in town. Panic would draw the biggest crowd ever to Bulldog Bash but it would take an act of congress to get them to come back. What a shame!

It wasn't SPD, it was mainly MBN. I was working contract with MBN then. You wouldn't believe the blow jobs offered for leniency that night.

play if you have any control over it. Makes plenty of sense to me. If Activity A encourages/draws conduct that is illegal/disliked, then you ban it.

This is no different than a bar that won't let you wear your hat backwards or have your shirt untucked.

I mean when is the last time a bunch of hippies on drugs ever caused a riot; however, these acts like shinedown attract all kind of questionable trash who try to burn down buildings on campus. Panic would be an unbelievable experience if they wanted to come back, but the I'd love to have them or some other good *** jam band like mule or even railroad earth with a robert randolph opener which wouldn't be that expensive, plus I am absolutely sure everybody would have a good time. However, I think this towns musical taste was summed up when there were only about 300 people showed when the Drive by Truckers played. I felt embarrassed to be from Starkville that night. As much as I hate Oxford, at least they give good bands a shot and people come out for the music. Oh well guess I'll just have to buy some white shoes and a tapout shirt to fit in at the bash this year.

you my friend, are an idiot. Get off your high horse. Hoon did not write every song and is not the complete mind behind the music. Brad Smith wrote their biggest hit "No Rain". Replacing a lead singer is not like getting a new bass player. Travis is doing a good job as the lead and is way better than Chris Shinn who they tried for a brief period. Hell you have to remember that they have been completely out of the scene for 10 years. They are starting over.

I'll tell you what to expect is a lot of drunk freshmen and roided out douches yellin "play boys from oklahoma" the entire night, even when they do finally play it. You'll possibly see a fight, cause most of those assclowns can't hold their liquor. The State Theatre is a waste of a great venue. They did a great job with renovations, but the crowd coupled with the ****** sound set up they have in their makes the experience subpar at best. I speak from experience, cause I went to the last show they played up there and I was less than pleased. I started goin to their shows six years ago though, so I'm a bit spoiled on gettin to see them when there were crowds in the likes of twenty people at most.

This maybe already known but the Gameday site shows where Tea Leaf Green is to play a free show at the Amphitheater on the Friday before SE LA. I can't wait to go set up the old tent in the Junction and bring the cooler along for the show.

In Columbus, saw Glen Graham at the same spot drinking cold beverages. Talked to him and told him they rocked last night. Good to see some good home town boys on the big stage one night then taking a step down to normal level just chilling the next.

State Theater would be a perfect venue for them. Seen soom good shows there, been about 5-6 years though.

The music scene in Starkville leaves alot to be desired but Tea Leaf Green is badass and will beat the hell out of ****** bands like Shinedown and One Republic. Gavin DeGraw sucks *** and is just further proof that the SA and Music Makers have lost touch with the average State student.

Speaking of September shows, Mofro is coming to the State Theater and Boombox is coming to Rick's.

I thought their first album was as innovative as Led Zep. Not kidding. Go ahead and call me an idiot. I haven't heard anything like it. Knew Glen Graham a bit when Cafe Des Moines played around town. Unbelievable drummer and great guy. Don't stick in cd's like I used to, but love it when one of their songs comes on. Saw a poster in Mobile that they'd played somewhere, so I knew they were doing the revival tour. Wishinemwell but not going out of my way. There's always a time and a place.
