Hopefully it's the beginning of the end of irrelevance at USC. Gonna be a big lift.

Nothing really changes unless we get a top-10 recruiting class and a couple playmakers from the portal (and don't lose anyone).

24th (or whatever we are) ain't gonna cut it.

Serious question, what exactly did you see that would give any indication that this month is the beginning of the end of being irrelevant.
I feel very confident in speaking for others on this board when I say "I failed to see any improvement in any aspect from this team from what we saw in September"

We had spurts here and there but nothing consistent. And, in the games where one position group performed better, another group would regress.

Remember back after the UNC game when Beamer admonished folks to get their shots in now agains the OL because they would get better?

Ignorant. With a 24th ranked recruiting class, our talent is NOT the problem. There are plenty of programs with 50-100th ranked classes that are really good, or competitive. Our coaching is the problem.

Maybe I'm just trying to put a positive spin on it - and maybe parroting the official line from Beamer. I don't know. Just didn't want to add on to all the doom and gloom.

Was that before or after everyone on the line got hurt?... I didn't like the outcome either, but we had about a half dozen linemen out nearly all season... I understand we should have at least seen a little improvement, but it's tough to have so many people hurt

Recruiting won’t help the line next year. Nothing will change unless we get transfers that are game ready

That is why I think 6-6 is more realistic for next year. If there were no injuries on the O line this year I think we still finish no better than 6-6.
I think Beamer can get it done its just a few years away.

6-6? Assume we beat ODU, Akron, Wofford and Vandy.

Where do 2 wins come from the following: @Clemson, @Bama, @uk, @Oklahoma, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri, A&M?

You can pencil in Clemson, Bama, Oklahoma, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri and A&M as losses. UK is probably a toss-up.

How many of those play the people we play?

The SEC 8 game conference schedule is designed to make sure coaches like Beamer keep their jobs. Playing Wofford and Akron and counting wins against them towards bowl eligibility is embarrassing and if those wins are needed to get to a bowl the season should really be considered a 4 win season.

Most years, we would not stand a chance of bowl eligibility without our non-conference cream-puff wins.

Reality is a tough concept for a lot of Gamecock fans. Getting excited about an 8-5 season with a 4-4 conference record and 4 wins over 3 cupcakes and Vandy and a win in a joke of a bowl game is hard for me to do.

Next year we are basically gifted 4 wins, which means all we have to do is scratch out 2 more, and it's very challenging to see where those wins might come from.

Bowl eligibility aside, look at a season like this one. Ok, we had 5 wins, just missed bowl eligibility. But 2 of those wins were over an FCS program and a G5 school (which was a nail biter). Another win came against probably the worst P5 team in the country. Aside from that, we beat MSU who went 1-7 in conference play and tied for the second worst team in the conference. The win over UK is the standout win on our schedule. Let that sink in. The season is much worse than the record would indicate.

The two records you just mentioned are perpetually realistic for us.
A thousand thanks for pointing this out. I think most of us negative Nellies want to do better than sleep walk into a 6-6 bowl invitation under (fill in name of head coach no one else wanted). Heck, maybe one day with the right coach we could end up the best W-L record in the East one season.

Well, that distinction will no longer be available to us going forward.

In the division format, we at least could fantasize about making it Atlanta by winning the East if all the chips fell our way. In the single division format, we have zero chance. The one year we DID make it to Atlanta, we had the 4th best record in the conference and would not have made it in the single division format.

The new SEC format takes SECCG aspirations off the table entirely.
