"That GU logo, we're America's deaf team. You see Alabama's uniform, Penn State's uniform, you know how they are. That's what we are."

Damn - this article was great and then they had to throw this in??? Now I'm in tears...

With NIL, free agency and all the other nonsense that’s spoiling the greatest game on Earth this put a smile on my face. It’s just a bunch of kids overcoming a real adversity, having fun and preparing for that journey we call life.

Thanks for the article Bob. One of the sports I have been heavily involved with is orienteering. Over the years, we have had quite a few deaf participants at events, many with ties to Gallaudet. That sport is actually fairly amenable to those with hearing issues. Football is a whole different matter with all of the team dynamics and communication required. It's really impressive they are able to perform so successfully.

I also met and hiked with a couple deaf thru hikers on the Appalachian Trail, again with ties to Gallaudet. Imagine not being able to hear wildlife like bears or rattlesnakes.

These people are a true inspiration and Gallaudet serves an invaluable role in helping them integrate into society.

38 years. I had the best job in the world.

I have a distant family member who was hard of hearing. She always wanted to go to Gallaudet, but never could do it. She admired all the students and profs for making life normalized for the hard of hearing/deaf community.

back in the day I got to see the football coach at Model school for the deaf (which I believe is on or near Gallaudelt's campus) Bob Westerman, 'talk' to his team. to say the least, he was wild. He was mad at them over their effort I believe, and was signing a feverish pace!! They knew what he was saying, and they could also see his emotion. it was quit a sight.
