Memphis isn’t a hub anymore. Getting a flight, and another airline, to Dallas is awesome, even if it is American. Having to take two connectors just to get to a hub won’t work.I would rather see them get a couple puddle hoppers to Memphis daily than Dallas. Much easier to get around Memphis International than DFW. Gotta get on those above concourse rail shuttles at DFW to get between terminals. Back in the day they used to have 4 daily flights to Memphis and a couple of those stopped in Tupelo first. I used to see a lot of assistant coaches riding those to Memphis on recruiting trips. Of course, that was before MSU got their own jet fleet.
No kidding. Dallas is the single best opportunity for GTR right now. The DFW metro is over 8 million and will pass Chicago in the next decade or so as the 3rd largest only behind LA and New York. It's home to more than 20 Fortune 500 companies. And DFW Airport is the most central major airport in the US and is #2 in the US and 5 in the world in size as if 2024.Memphis isn’t a hub anymore. Been on them many timesI still remember when they flew those 27-seat Embrasilia turbo props out of GTR. Loudest damn commercial flights ever.
This is incredibly dumb. A flight to DFW is a game changer. Great day for MSU.I would rather see them get a couple puddle hoppers to Memphis daily than Dallas. Makes sense. I would expect a stinky old pu$sy POS Goat to ride a goatholder airline to the illegal immigrant capital of the world. This is incredibly dumb. A flight to DFW is a game changer. Great day
Jokes on you, I switched from Delta to American and the planes I take are so much nicer. And only for $1000 you can flight American's luxury flight
100%. Can’t stop the brain drain, but can mitigate it.This is a positive for any alumni in Dallas (myself included) who want to hit weekend basketball or baseball games without driving 9 hours or flying to Jackson and driving 2 more hours.
A united flight to Houston would be awesome too.
Drive your Genespage asss from Memphis to Starkville.Makes sense. I would expect a stinky old pu$sy POS Goat to ride a goatholder airline to the illegal immigrant capital of the world.
TLDR — The chances of Starkville getting a Target just increased by 150 percent. No kidding. Dallas is the single best opportunity for GTR right now. The DFW metro is over 8 million and will pass Chicago in the next decade or so as the 3rd largest only behind LA and New York. It's home to more than 20 Fortune 500 companies. And DFW Airport is the most central major airport in the US and is #2 in the US and 5 in the world in size as if 2024.
So from GTR you are now basically 1 connection from anywhere in the US without having to backtrack several hours. I live out west and it was a nightmare looking up flights to GTR. I can basically be in Starkville at the game now while I would still be waiting to connect in Atlanta.
This is big economically for the Golden Triangle. I lived in Dallas for over a decade and every time I looked at getting to Starkville it ended up being easier to just drive 8-9 hours. I'm sure an executive with a big company would feel the same way and choose somewhere else to open a branch/facility/plant etc.
You fat thumbed the wrong thread on your phone…That wasn’t a foul. These refs are sort of on the take.
Look — GTR needs at least one flight going westbound….sheeshTLDR — The chances of Starkville getting a Target just increased by 150 percent.
But Statler, Waldorf, and @Mr. Cook would say a 150 percent increase from Zero is still Zero…
**
(seriously though, this is good and gives GTR a chance to move the needle… the big thing: will people and businesses buy tickets?)
I did, and I realized it immediately. I decided to leave it. I think the refs were all about making sure we didn’t cover. Just me.You fat thumbed the wrong thread on your phone…
Contour to Dallas was either $119 or $159 depending on the day. This was about a week ahead, booking sooner might be cheaper. For $199 on the return flight I can change flights up to 60 minutes prior to departure with no additional charges. I’ll need that if I run into any weather delays at all.Contour flights from Tupelo to Nashville are normally less than $100. Affordable connection to a regional hub.
I wish Contour flew out of more places in Mississippi other than Tupelo and Greenville. Someplace further south would be nice — and I’m talking about GTR…Contour flights from Tupelo to Nashville are normally less than $100. Affordable connection to a regional hub.
Contour is only flying to Tupelo and Greenville because they are EAS airports, which means the federal government subsidizes those flights.I wish Contour flew out of more places in Mississippi other than Tupelo and Greenville. Someplace further south would be nice — and I’m talking about GTR…
That’s good to know.Contour is only flying to Tupelo and Greenville because they are EAS airports, which means the federal government subsidizes those flights.
GTR is NOT a EAS airport
Low cost carriers are called that for a reason. Don’t use them. Trust me.I wish Contour flew out of more places in Mississippi other than Tupelo and Greenville. Someplace further south would be nice — and I’m talking about GTR…
Contour only does subsidized flights. GTR pays its way, unlIke Tupelo.I wish Contour flew out of more places in Mississippi other than Tupelo and Greenville. Someplace further south would be nice — and I’m talking about GTR…
They did, and lost it.I swear they had this flight back in 1997 when I had an interview in Dallas but may not remember right.
I usually don’t. I look at them as alternative options or if they have really specific routes.Low cost carriers are called that for a reason. Don’t use them. Trust me.
Delta flew to Dallas from GTR until they disbanded their Dallas Hub in 2004ish….I swear they had this flight back in 1997 when I had an interview in Dallas but may not remember right.

Correct, and if you are resigned to the idea that Jackson has no future, then all we really have left to do is hope the GT continues to grow and that we can begin to recruit out-of-state students (and businesses). This opens up the whole west to us.This will be big for future recruitment for students into that area. If only Mississippi could get some of these out of state kids to stay here
Dallas is pretty easy as far as big airports go. The tram is easy and the terminals are all the same layout. It’s a very good connection for GTR. I fly out of Memphis a few times a year. We connect to Dallas quite often. Memphis is easy to get around but like others have stated you’ll have to connect to a hub to get to most places.I would rather see them get a couple puddle hoppers to Memphis daily than Dallas. Much easier to get around Memphis International than DFW. Gotta get on those above concourse rail shuttles at DFW to get between terminals. I don’t see Jackson turning things around any time soon. I think the best hope is to grow places like the 3 college towns, the Memphis suburbs, Tupelo, and the Coast in order to get Mississippi on a better track.Correct, and if you are resigned to the idea that Jackson has no future, then all we really have left to do is hope the GT continues to grow and that we can begin to recruit out-of-state students (and businesses). Nor do I.I don’t see Jackson turning things around any time soon. I think the best hope is to grow places like the 3 college towns, the Memphis suburbs, Tupelo, and the Coast in order to get Mississippi on a better track.
Yeah, that's what attracted that noted Mississippi company, Toyota, to Tupelo.Nor do I.
- Memphis Metro is Memphis Metro. Certainly hope it keeps growing. To me, it and GT are about the only real chance we have to out of state influx to MS. I kinda include Oxford in the Memphis Metro since there's no much influence there.
- Hattiesburg, Tupelo and the Coast.....these are good places but mainly more appealing to MS people. Plus you have really bad weather, not to mention hurricanes, that limit big growth. So you still have that MS feel to it, which like it or not, deters out of staters from coming here. But they'll stay steady, be a decent option for Mississippians to live, as will the Jackson Metro. But nothing great.
However....I do hope Tupelo can begin to rise on its own. It's lucky to be by the interstate and maybe the I-22 to 45 corridor can build on itself. Just seems so spread out with a lack of true consolidation.
Memphis?... my man... below is a link showing all direct flights from MEM. Most of them are once a day and many are only bi-weekly and on scab airlines.I would rather see them get a couple puddle hoppers to Memphis daily than Dallas. Much easier to get around Memphis International than DFW. Gotta get on those above concourse rail shuttles at DFW to get between terminals.
