Happy heavenly birthday RIP and thank you for your guidance on how to be a man, your message continues to live on for generations
The fact that Coach Paterno graduated from a Jesuit high school and was a Literature major in college strikes a chord in me. My dad and his brothers were Jesuit educated and two of them ended up as English college professor / high school teacher. I did not graduate PSU but in my actual graduating yearbook I chose this line from Browning to be under my picture: “Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, / Or what’s a heaven for?” It was years later when I discovered this was also Coach Paterno’s own favorite quote. That’s nice, I think.

Very fitting that the first two scores were by the defense today.
And Franklin wins his 100th…
Just for clarity this was CJFs 100th victory as PSU coach. He has 24 wins at Vandy.
At 11 wins per year he should tie Joe in a little over 25 years.

So something to look forward to.

I also have to believe that Joe head a deep sense of fairness. The amount of money now involved in CFB might sway his thinking a bit to include a larger share to those really driving the revenue. However I'm guessing the "free agent" part of it now would not sit well
Joe wanted players to be good students as well as good athletes. He understood the demands of trying to do both left little time for a part time job to earn a little spending money so they could go get a pizza or ice cream like other students. That's why he supported a small stipend.

Joe would have never supported what we see today. The current system puts money above academics.

Franklin took a victory lap after today's win. One of the things he boasted about was 12 wins for only the 4th time in PSU history. To be fair Joe had three 12 win seasons and all of them were UNDEFEATED teams.

That's no disrespect to Franklin. 12 wins is a great accomplishment but the regular season is now longer plus a conference championship game plus up to 4 playoff games. Records are going to be difficult to compare.

I guess this wasn't considered a bowl game but the next couple will be. How do you compare records for the most bowl wins?
