Is he expected back for the LSU series? Do we have a catcher on the roster than can actually throw out a baserunner or is every single for our opponent just going to be an automatic double?

Imagine how bad Jackson Owen has to be defensively because he was the star hitting in the fall & we still put Powell in the lineup instead of Owen.
per polk on the broadcast this past week. Splatta is the next catcher dressed and the joke was Ben Davis was the emergency guy. Makes me wonder if Owens is even on the active SEC roster?
Going into last night we'd only thrown out 2 runners all season... both by powell
Powell was 2 for 16 in throwing runners out
Highfill was 0 for 9
I don't quite understand this staff's infatuation with Highfill. I get he is talented and was injured all of last year, but there has been no noticeable improvement from his freshman year. His receiving is still poor, and his bat isn't living up to the hype. Hell, he may have even regressed.
Obviously I do hope he's totally fine after the scary moment last Friday.

i was questioned when i said this earlier... but highfill was basically promised the every day catchers job to return to campus. He's viewed more of an OFer in the eyes of scouts, but he knows his value sky rockets if he can be a servicable catcher.
Much like Sims was promised the friday night gig.. even though it wasnt what was best for the team... lemonis did what was best for one of his boys. Highfill falls in the "one of the boys" category. And its one of lemonis's greatest faults. He falls in love with certain guys and will not bench them or move them to appropritate spots. See a long list of guys like Hancock, Long, Sims, even Stone Simmons this year....

Doesn't Cheese coach the catchers? He also coaches 3B & sent Dylan Cupp with one out after the overthrown pickoff at 1B against Texas when he got thrown out by 3 steps. That would have been a huge run in that game and might have changed the outcome of the series.
