just wondering what places are "still" around... I lived in StarkVegas for over 10 years. I have only been gone two years and there have been more changes than there were the 10 years that I was there... crazy...

The few times I played out there, there was never anyone else out there. Their prices were pretty cheap, but I would rather pay the few extra bucks and play at State's Course. They never kept The Highlands up, so I would guess they just went bankrupt.

College golfers and casual golfers played all the courses in and around Starkville but a lot of businessmen and retirees that play SCC and MSU only played the Highlands once and never came back. I heard several complaining about the noise from drunk college students out behind their apartments and about the up-keep of the course in general.

The HP Golf Course owners did not go bankrupt. They lost several members last fall (08) and the public daily play went down considerably. I heard it was in large part due to the MSU course allowing golfers to bring their own alcohol on the course. I can see how that would be damaging to HP's course. Since the rates between MSU and HP were pretty much the same, allowing customers to bring their own "drinks" with them would be hard to compete with. HP could not allow this because they had beer and liquor licenses. Sad!

As far as the condition of the HP course...I thought it was in good shape. I played there several times, and thought that it was worth the price to play. Plus, they had just hired a pro who was creating some new and fun activities for golfers. Hoping someone buys the course and gets it going again.

The course at HP looks bad because there hasn't been any upkeep. It would take some work to get it back to playing condition, but could be done with reasonable time and funding. It has been closed for one year January 1. Cowbell's is still going strong!

Funny... So what is the difference if you take your "drink" to a MSU game??? Inside the stadium? On campus is... on campus, right?

if it were possible for the football team to play at two different places at the same time, and one of those places allowed fans to bring in their own drinks, food, etc., then the alternate stadium would have more fans in it. It's not about the drinks themselves, rather paying for the drinks. Why would you pay for stuff when you don't have to?

Both the neighborhood and the golf course go downhill every single year. I would never live in a place that horrible again.

the place is a piece of **** and is a real eyesore. My opinion is they should tighten up the living covenents and change the course to a 18 hole Par 3. Where else is there a Par 3 course? Could be a gimmicky draw to play and less upkeep. Not sure it would work but the number of golf courses in the area vs the number of golfers is not realistic at this time.

It looks like **** and is way over-developed. Now that the golf course is gone I imagine it's going to become a less desirable place to live than it already is. I rarely hear anything positive about the place from people who live there. I was talking to someone over the weekend who seemed embarrassed to even admit she lived there. If that place goes under it is going to be a huge eye sore coming into town. I just don't see it getting any better. Hopefully I'm over-reacting.

I loved it and thought that it was a privelage to be able to live there. I went to a game last year and decided to drive through it and see what my old condo looked like. Man what a difference 6 years makes, it looked like it aged 40 years in that time.

I am currently on the Home Owners Board at highlands plantation and yes we at highland have had a tough year or past few years. But with that said cowbells is doing well and the golf course is about to get a new owner. Also the owners of houses out there are in the posses of getting assessed almost $2000 each for new roads to be put in. So I hope the best days for highlands are sill in front of us. Just so you know the main problem with highland plantation was the bankrupt developer who dose not own the golf course. He let all that crap be built and then ran with the $ and filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and it is a mess. But we are working hours every day to get things turned around.

they put up 1 bajillion lego houses down that first road in only a matter of weeks. Who was the greedy bastard with that idea? The only way to fix that now is to bulldoze all of those cheap-***, cookie-cutter houses.

The Real reason the place went to **** is that the owner of the golf course got pissed off because they built Cowbells and he was not included. He got mad and wanted his piece of the pie of cowbells and was never included. The sad thing is the Owners of Cowbells want to buy the golf course and the owner of the golf course is being a dick about it. Its a bunch of childish sshit going on. Also I can assure you that the owner of the Golf course is Not Bankrupt. These are the facts gentleman.

I lived there in 03-04 and I LOVED it. But that of course is when they put up all of the terrible looking box houses and let anybody live there and throw huge parties all day everyday. Now it looks like the polo's or any other off-campus student housing. ABSOLUTE CRAP. When it had all of the differently designed duplexes on it, it was a beautiful place to live. I know that I would be PISSED if I had bought one of the nice homes towards the back to see what it is now. I would have to believe that the property value has plummeted.

About half the people I knew that moved out there seemed to completely disappear once they moved in. I guess it's kind of out of the way so it becomes harder to go to the bars without taking a cab home or risking driving drunk. But there were tons of people I knew that moved out there and they'd just end up sitting around getting drunk at there apartments and never actually going out.

I will give Highlands props though, my freshman and sophomore years (fall 04- spring 06) Highlands was the place to be and had some outrageously huge parties. Fun times.</p>

DOTW...you have your info wrong! The current owners of the course were not upset about Cowbells or the fact that they were not involved in ownership! They were happy about Cowbells coming in, and did not care about being part of ownership. They have enough going on, there and other places, to get their feelings hurt because they don't have a hand in Cowbells. Not sure where you got your info, but I assure you they were and are not upset about their involvement.

I do hope someone buys the course and gets things turned around. I live there now, and really hope something happens soon! Everyone who lives or owns within HP will suffer if the roads are not fixed. That is fact. Another poster had some good info about the owners being assesed funds to get the roads taken care of.

GO DAWGS!!!!

the houses themselves are good it is how all the different owners keep them up.
