Yeah this has been the answer so far. Inquiring minds want to know. Just vaguely referencing some details is not really an answer. What did he do? Specifics please. Not trying to call you out, and plenty of people have been vague around this. I am asking for anyone that actually knows the details to lay them out.
He didn’t actually DO anything. He’s just a hard headed guy, with a cocky personality, and simply butted heads with the higher ups. He comes across as an a-hole. Even acted that way as a kid.

We're going gauge some guys (Pollard, Sarloos, Heefner) and they will either politely say no or use us for raises. It's just really hard to hire a sitting head coach right now.

Then we'll move on to Mingione. There have been rumors that a group of boosters have been pushing for him since last week. That would be fine, but that's it. Fine. He seems pretty ordinary, plus it seems like he's always in some bush league drama. Didn't he trip a guy while coaching third base when we were playing Florida years ago?

Burroughs. Ok I guess. Meh.

Maybe we could get Canham, but I'm not sure if he's ever even traveled south of the Mason Dixon line. Godwin has sort of lost his luster. Seems like a Freezus style head case on the Twitters.

There are rumors of pro/minor league coaches. Too much unknown there.

I think Coggin is the next big thing. He's a lights out recruiter who our current staff hates because he beats them. He's a dog. He could be our coach for the next 20 years. Due diligence is key here since he did spend a little time out of baseball and we don't want to end up in a Cannizaro situation, although that actually worked out pretty well.

Next up is Elander. Similar to Coggin.

I don't want to hire a mediocre to slightly above average coach because we're hung up on prior head experience.
i would be a more than ok with mingione. he’s made kentucky competive in baseball. that’s a hard task. he understands mississippi state as well. i think he’d crush it here

Thank you. I did not know any of that. So a cocky arrogant guy that was hard to get along with. I can buy that as a reason not to hire the guy.

Man.....I think I'm with you. Obviously I like Burroughs, but I've also been thinking about Butch and O'Connor and yada yada.....but I think Coggin may truly be the answer. He's got a lot of Cannizaro in him so we just need to be careful that he's mature enough to not bring out the bad crap. Good news is, Coggin is 40, so a little older, and he's been at multiple schools and done well at each one.

When you start thinking about how he played under Polk and saw the bad way of doing things, then coached under Cohen and saw exactly how he/Burroughs/Butch rebuilt things, then he's been at JUCO, and then ID'ed Nate freaking Lowe and brought him to MSU. Recruited Kentucky's and Georgia's current teams.......

We might be onto something here. I wonder if he'd be amenable to keeping Parker around, and thus keeping some of our freshman pitchers (who are good) around.

ETA: I like the idea of bringing Ammo back too.

Sooo lets hire a 40 year old, thats never been a head coach at any level... and who was highly thought of enough that he was basically out of coaching for 3 years, has never been rumored to get any other job... and has tons of bad baggage that'll come along with him

Honestly think he's the answer? if he's even one of the first 10 guys you call... then this program is nowhere near the level we think it is.... to put it in perspective.. Geautreau's resume is probably on par than Coggins at this point if not better, #4 recruiting class to Tulane of all places, Interim HC experience, Natty, Assistant Coach of the year...

if your even thinking of going down the no experience, recruiter type... then call real programs that have had real success at the tip top of the mountain... start with UT, LSU, and work your way down to Kentucky and UGA (laughable)
