My brother and I (both F-4 pilots) are going to Normandy next week. He’s been there twice before but this’ll be my first time. I’m old now so this’ll probably be the last time I’ll get to go.

I’ve been fortunate to visit several historic places over the years. All were worth the trip.

Normandy is amazing.

11. England is interesting to visit since much of our culture, history, and common law is based on them. London currently might be a dangerous place, though.

I’d like to go back to London… So much there I’ve not explored & I’d like to see Arsenal play at Emirates.

The last time I was there, they played at Highbury…

12. I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland but only got within about 150’ of it doing about 550-600 mph in an F-4 flying down the Loch Ness. Didn’t see Nessie. I think some of my early family history may come from Scotland since my last name sounds Scottish.

Ah… Hail Clan MacPhantom…

I’d like to explore more of Scotland. I’ve experienced Edinburgh and the area of Scotland where my family hailed from (Ayrshire). Next time, I want to see the Highlands as well as Glasgow…

You don’t have to go down in it. Just visiting the rim is awe inspiring.

This. Go with a fellow WW2 nerd. Makes it so much more enjoyable and engaging.

I love my wife, but it’s like golf. She is simply not allowed to go. I know how that will turn out.

I want to have fun, not feel rushed because she is bored. Experience has taught me: Life is too short to do something together that’s going to make us both mad at each other.

Mine goes with me to play golf with the understanding it’s an excuse to get outdoors, talk, listen to some tunes, etc. you’re bored? Tough ****. Shouldn’t have came. I try to make it fun for her. Explain the rules of golf, course strategy, I also let her be a part of it like a cheerleader. Hey honey, this is a big shot coming up, how about cradling my balls real quick for good luck?

If you still have children living at home, pile them up in the car and drive somewhere. We've had several road trips out West and one East Coast trip. We still talk about the memories made on those family vacations. Yes, sibling arguments happen and something will go wrong - and it probably sounds like h3ll, but that's part of the adventure. Today, I'm appreciative of those times spent with my family.

Speaking of WWII history. In Destin Fl. just east of Sanddestin is a little resort called 4mile Village. Jerry Jones (Dallas cowboys)has a beach house there now. I grew up going there for family vacation. On the backside of a huge sand dune was concrete runway about the size of a driveway. At the base of the sand dune and base of runway was a concrete pillbox. My dad the WWII navy pilot always told me that it was were our military tested captured WWII German V2 rockets. The military shot them into the Gulf of America to test their range.
