Hoping Chris Relf doesn't get Wayne Madkin Syndrome

I remember Wayne Madkin having a superb Junior Year, and lots was expected from him in 2001. Yet he struggled during the Senior Season, too timid to rush for first downs, and WR's dropping passes on him like they did it intentionally. By the end of the year, we benched him & put in a High School all-State Freshman Sophomore.

Sound Familiar? Let's just hope Vick Ballard doesn't balloon to 300 lbs. & begin dealing weed.

Some saying he was going to be the top QB in the SEC and that he had some draft potential. Relf, for all he has done, is still not getting the level of attention that Madkin got.

I felt sorry for Madkin...he was on his own in many ways as far as coaching went.

...to me, this is exactly why Mullen will not hand over you are qb starter until camp... reality is we all know relf will be the starter, but at least Mullen isn't handing it to him. Therefore, still pushing him to get better and better.

...my only concern is for Relf's health.

We don't need him getting his knee screwed up for the season in the Memphis game.

If Relf can stay healthy, he is going to go on a tear this fall.

Ever being a bruising, option running bull of a QB. Yea, he'd break a few off when protection broke down but he never was the runner Relf is. I'm glad Relf is flying under the radar. Hopefully it'll remain that way until we break the streak against Les and his Bengals.

As far as WR's dropping passes intentionally on Wayne. This is fact. I was on the sideline for 3 of the home games that year, and good friend of Fant. He told me that the other players on the team felt like Wayne acted too "Caucasian" for them and they resented that. Pretty damn ****** and stupid if you asked me, but that all goes back to lack of discipline and team control from the coaches. They should have wanted to win no matter who played QB.

....Statewould have been ATL more than once (especially against the West at that time). Of course, half of the team would've probably never come if Mullen was there so, there's always that to consider.

I don't expect Mullen to play Relf the whole game. He pulled him at the half last year in the Memphis game and pulled him after only 90 yards passing in the spring game. It's one thing to see Favre and Russell play in the spring game, but he's going to pin them against Memphis. Granted they're a terrible team, but they'll play 85%+ A. because they're expendable and B. scouting.

Relf is not a better QB than Madkin,.... but the Kang had lost it.

Overall,we have now have more depth at QB, than I can recall...ever.
