How bad does Clary’s injury hurt us?

Because a 'true PG' is not critical to success as a team?
- A combo guard, or a couple combo guards, can be just as effective.
- A combo guard and a point-forward can be just as effective.

We are averaging 17 assists per game, which is 35th best in the country.
We are averaging 9.4 turnovers per game, which is 9th best in the country.
Additionally, we are 68th in FG%, 183rd in 3pt%, and 10th in steals.

So we get a 17 ton of assists per game and barely turn the ball over while getting a ton of steals and shooting at a high overall percentage.
Seems pretty effective to me.

I think it's too early to make that claim. We've played six Quad 1 games so far, and we're 4-2 in those games, so clearly we're doing a lot right as a team. No argument there

That said, Hubbard has struggled in every one of those games with either his shooting, distributing the ball, or both

Let me be clear, I’m not saying that having a true PG is some magic pill that suddenly makes us a Top 5 team, but I also don’t think we’re going to know how effective our current setup is until we continue to play through this SEC gauntlet

Post 18 said something about how posters have said he has an attitude problem and that isnt surprising, given his exit from Penn State.
In post 19, I questioned whether posters had said he has an attitude problem.

You then quoted me and used that response to jump into the conversation.
If you are going to start citing where someone posted a comment within a thread, at least make it make sense.


Clary might be sitting because of attitude problems- who knows?
Clary might be sitting because of injury- who knows?
Clary might be sitting to transfer again- who knows?
Clary might be sitting because he has incriminating photos of Keenum that is keeping him from being kicked out of the university entirely- who knows?


This whole thread was posts that all boiled down to 'who knows', and then someone with low reading comprehension claimed posts said Clary was kicked off for attitude, just like at PSU.
That is what you jumped in based off of- a response to someone who didnt read things well.

I mean, thats a seriously tough schedule to use for this 'experiment', but sure yeah I get that it could be viewed as too early to tell.
More data is always good.
Its just a bit goofy to use us losing to the #1 team in the country on the road as evidence that the roster doesnt work and a distributing PG is better.


With that said, last night was brutal from a shooting perspective for Hubbard, and from an assists and turnover perspective from Hubbard, Matthews, and the team in general.
Last night definitely hurt the numbers I cited before the game. Auburn dominated on defense and kept Matthews from being able to drive and finish or drive and kick. If he is stopped dead in his tracks at the baseline with no plan(as happened like 20 times last night), MSU will likely struggle in the half court.

Right or wrong when I hear "combo guard" I think of a guard who isn't a good enough ball handler to be a point guard and not a good enough shooter to be a 2 guard. And we've had a crap ton of combo guards at Mississippi State.

A true pg is not critical when playing teams with inferior talent that don't play aggressive defense. We've padded our offensive stats playing our non-conference schedule. I think now that we are in our sec schedule and playing teams with similar talent that play aggressive talent, our lack of an true point guard or two, is going to hurt us a lot. I hope that I am wrong and that you are right, but I don't think so.

Did Melendez leave Georgia because attitude problems? Did Claudell Harris leave Boston College because attitude problems? Did Kugal leave Florida because of attitude problems? Just because you leave a school doesn’t mean you had issues. Shak Moore was a model player for us for a few years, and he left and went to Kansas. Sometimes they offer more money or a player just wants a change of scenery in their final year.

Brian & Robbie definitely referenced something in their podcast today other than/in addition to an injury happening with Clary

There were also "red-flags" with Kugel at Florida that haven't yet materialized at MSU.

I am not aware of any rumors of issues with Harris, Melendez, or Nwoko at their previous stops.
